I shall walk onward...

Forsaken...
This road I tread.
One I walk upon day after day.
Finally with no end in sight, I fall to my knees, exhausted.
And look to the ground and cry out in desperation.

Suddenly, there beside me stood a traveler, much like myself.
With not a word he reached out his hand to me.
He asked me to accompany him down this lonesome, and ill-gotten road.
With tears welling up in my eyes, I looked up at him.
Grabbing hold of his hand, as he smiled down at me.

With my hand I wiped the tears from my eyes.
Who was this person, who called it upon himself to aid me?
I stood up beside my fellow traveler and asked, "Why?"
He looked to me and said, with a smile, "You looked like you could use a friend."

That was the only reason he gave, and it was the only one I needed.
From then on I would not have to traverse this journey, that had no end, alone.

For now I had, a friend...
