Past the romantic gestures of a trivial love, you may find that the fairytale written romance is nothing but a script written by men who don’t believe what they bull s**t.
It seems that the film industry has done more of a controversial job of portraying romance than any other source.
When you were five, what did you see? You saw the general misconception that loves prevails all, that love is easy and fair.
Skip to twenty years later. You may be happy, but chances are, you are individually curled up in your sheets while stuffing your face in tear-filled, mascara painted pillows.
As children, we perceive this image – which is more often than not – stemmed from films. The image; the misconception of a male figure that is a sensual god, a worshipper of women, is often the mental picture we choose to have dwell in the cracks of our hearts.
We (stated to women) choose to remember the feeling we experience when we heard those words, and they lived happily ever after. “Happily” is just another word in the English Dictionary. Doesn’t mean that it happens, doesn’t mean that it exists. To an extent it does, but why is it that we are only happy when we are leeches on the male species? When did women stop relying on themselves in order to rely on the insecurities of a man? Relationships aren’t necessarily bad, but they aren’t half of what is expressed in the film industry.
Granted, it is nice to dream. However, where is the line drawn between dreams and reality? If we grow up with this image of love, how are we ever supposed to come to terms with the reality that it isn’t as simple?
Love is not an emotion, no. It is an ability that is shared between two people. Love can exist, but it can not be your favorite fairytale, it will simply be what you choose to make of it.
