Domo Backpack ate my head....
Crazy adventures in this world we call, GAIA.
Whatever to Donations to help DX?
Back when GAIA was just a whee child...the old users stood up and petitioned the admins of GAIA to put up a Donation to keep this wonderful site going! But now...people are GREEDY...they don't donate...even if they do..the items are the ones that they are interested in...not the purpose of helping GAIA. The word Donation shouldn't even be used anymore...should be called...Buy an Item. stare

This is why I am proud to wear this halo D:& anyone that has a Halo FIRST..not from a trade or a gift or a contest or an auction...those that just donated...JUST DONATED! They wanted to help D& no strings attached..no thought of an item as a reward. Just Helping. crying

But yeah anyways...GAIA users are greedy now Y_Y;; well some.

EDIT: GAIA users are just plain greedy D:< and mean. LOL. I quit DX! I'll just stay in my safe zones. No more GAIA Times ;_; I've decided against it Y_Y sorry to bring your hopes up...but I took a look at all the forums these past week...no one is interested in Community News ;_;

Yeah, I got carried away with the donations, trying to get the same glitches that others are experiencing that I have more than 20 of them now... lol @_@ And I usually don't donate more than the amount of 10 letters... xd I'm not one to try and cash in a lot on what I have. (I received a PM to help them price gouge the letters...? O_o I declined whole heartedly. xp ) It doesn't really matter to me much about the letters; it's just a bunch of pixels that the people at Gaia draws up. It's just feels pleasant for me to receive them as a "Thank You", though not directly.

I feel as though that this site is becoming more and more of a chore to maintain than it was a hobby for them, ever since we've reached more than 2 million users.

But besides the donations, I was looking forward to reading your Times for the first time. I wouldn't mind it if Times were to be updated every month instead of every week. At least we would know what's going on, especially in parts of the site we rarely delve into. Oh, well. It would probably put more stress on you, anyway. It's your decision after all. ^_^

Note to self: Cut down on writing long comments... It's a small comment box!! gonk

Noes! Not the GAIA Times! gonk

But I guess it would have been a lot of work, and not that many people would've been interested. With the size Gaia is, it would have been impossible to write about a whole forum and the specific things that happen within them.

I donate because I can. It helps the site, regardless of how small my single donation is. smile

Merry Christmas!

Almost all of Gaia's Halo's are tainted... ~_~ Like you said, not original owners... Not that it's a bad thing, it's just... kinda sad. It shows how this site is.

Arwen, in the LJ comm, someone wanted to make a newspaper, but when I mentioned you may be bringing yours back, they got all worried about competition xd I would read, and try to help- though I'm not sure how much of the latter I would be.

*hugs* I wish I saw you around more often, please don't disappear completely ;-;

One could argue that the developers condone this kind of behavior.

I don't know. It's all confusing.

I could say you are slow, but that just sounds stupid. confused

Instead, I tell you that gaia can be a great site if you know where to look and where to stay, you have been on here for so long, you have met great people and a lot of people love you. You may not like the greed infested pack of corrupted rats and the rest, but you still have places to go and people to stay in touch with. Be grateful with that and leave the rest of the site to people who like it. sweatdrop Atleast, that's how I've come to see it.

Merry christmas/other happy day.

Aldo's pretty much right, just stay in your comfort areas. Although pretty much everyone donates for the items nowadays. I know I do...

Although I've also heard that Gaia gets more money from advertisements than donations, so donations aren't really as needed anymore.

I think the whole donation for the sake of donating thing died like 2+ years ago...way before most users were even on Gaia. It's sad...

It fits, Arwen. Gaia hasn't been running on donations for a long, long time. IT has changed as well...why should the users have not? It's been a long time since Lanzer, L0cke, VO, and Ling were poor old people struggling to maintain their fledgling forum with a few thousand happy and generous users. Now Gaia's practically an internet empire, with twenty thousand people on during quiet times and forty thousand denizens of the internet infesting this site during peak hours; it's got bunches of developers who each get paid, a team of paid lawyers, merchandise, and features that are often taken from popular internet things and integrated into the site. Gaia's paid for by advertisements now; with such a huge userbase seeing the ads every day, the big businesses have no qualms about handing Lanzer practically blank checks. Did you see that media kit that got leaked a while back? A site with three million registered users and an average thirty thousand people online isn't a community, it's a commodity, and a damn valuable one, as far as marketing people are concerned.

As for Gaia Times, you're half-right. It's not that people don't care about what's going on in the community, it's that people don't care what happens outside of their little slice of the community. FFA Guilds regs don't give a damn about ED, and ED doesn't give a damn about Guilds in general. GGNers often stick to just GGNs or mostly GGNs and care little for the main forums these days. No one really gives a damn what happens outside of the forum they're regular in.

Yes, time passes.
Although I might be still considered "new"...
I know Gaia has had better days.

I had an anti-inflation thing going for a while (it died due to no one else helping) so I know what you're talking about.
