Shiny Things Don't Taste Good
When I was in Kindergarten, I had these really cool, good quality glitter glues. You know the ones that you used to make things that stuck to windows. Anyway, I played with them all the time, and I never had any problems with them, little did I know, glitter glues are very dangerous if you don't use them right, while your using them, and even after you put them away...
One time, I was using them, and I was having, LOTS of fun. The fun went on and on, until I had to go to lunch, good lunch. I licked my delicious, glittery fingers... A few days later, though, I woke up, in pain. No more fun. I couldn't walk right, and the only way I could breathe through my nose was if I covered it. I just felt sick. I asked my mom if she would carry me to school, even though she said I looked terrible. She agreed, because she knew how much I loved school. When we got to school, I said, “Mommy, I can't breath and it hurts. Can we go home?”
When I said that, she carried me back home, and called Kaiser. The first time she called, they told her to give me a Popsicle to hydrate me. My mom didn't do that, instead she called again, even though I needed to be hydrated, I didn't eat or drink in days! She called again, they told her to give me a Tylenol or something. I don't really think a Tylenol would help with my breathing. Finally she called the third time, and she said that I kept on complaining that it hurt when I inhaled. At that, Kaiser ordered us to come there immediately. When we got their, they acted right away. I got X-rays, an MRI, and I was put on a feeding tube and oxygen tank. I was really scared.
At first the doctors didn't know what was wrong with me. They called up a surgeon, to see if it was my appendix, nope. But then, one of the X-rays revealed that I had these little dots in my stomach, it looked like stardust. The doctors said it was most likely an excessive amount of iron, or some metal in my digestive system. They also said that if we didn't come within a two hour limit, I would probably die. Iron goes right into your blood system, causing clots and thick blood.
Luckily I did survive. I only stayed at the hospital overnight, and I got to go to school the next day, I was a little late though. What I learned from this experience, even though I was young, is that even if I don't want to, Always to wash my hands, care for your hygiene. You never know what kind of germs, or other dangerous things you touched rubbed off on your hands. Another theme I discovered was that you always have to be aware about everything that you do, even if it is art...
