BPAL: DEATH OF AUTUMN
THE DEATH OF AUTUMN: (Company Says: Dark amber, dead leaves, khus, saffron, bitter clove, chrysanthemum, camellia, galangal, and a drop of oud. )

Think woods in late Autumn, damp leaves, the faint smell of a bonfire in the distance, probably also made with damp leaves. The cloves add a bit of spice, hinting at cider for later. It is brash out of the bottle, but soon softens into what I'm described. I strongly suggest giving it time to mellow before deciding how you feel about it. It reminds me a bit of Aziraphale's slightly wilder and more outdoorsey cousin. On me, the amber and galangal are quite strong (making a musky wood scent), and the plants smell of crushed or broken stems, rather than the actual flowers. I do think this one is aptly named. Whether one likes it or not is likely a matter of taste.

I have just looked up khus and discovered it's high end wild vetiver. sigh. That would explain the odd note, but luckily it is not setting me off the way vetiver normally does. I guess khus costs more for a reason. It is still not a scent I'd want in stuff if I had a choice, but at least it doesn't send me running for the bath.
