How important are the words we speak? More important then we may realize. Our words have echoes that extend beyond place or time. If our words are encouraging, we can lift others up; If our words are hurtful, we can hold others back.
Jesus said, "In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law of the Prophets" (Matthew 7:12 NIV). This commandment is, indeed, the Golden Rule for Christians of every generation. And if we are to observe the Golden Rule, we must be careful to speak words of encouragement, hope, and truth to all those who cross our paths.
Do you seek to be a source of encouragement to others? And, do you seek to be a worthy ambassador for Christ? If so, you must speak words that are worthy of your Savior. So avoid angry outbursts. Refrain from impulsive outpourings. Terminate tantrums. Instead, speak words of encouragement and hope to your family and friends, who, by the way, need all the hope and encouragement they can find.
Thoughts For Today.
The battle of the tongue is won not in the mouth, but in the heart.
When you talk, choose the very same words that you would use if Jesus were looking over your shoulder. Because He is.
A Tip For Today.
Words are very important. What you say can change someone. So make sure that you think first and speak next. Otherwise, you may give the greatest speach you wish you'd never made!
A Prayer For Today.
Dear Lord, You hear every word that I say. Let my speech bring honor to You. Today and every day, let me speak words that are honest, kind, and worthy of You. Amen.
A Verse For Today.
Words kill, words give life; they're either poison or fruit--you choose.
