Black Rose
I still remember how it all happened, I can see it all in my mind, that awful dreaded day, who knew things would have had to turn out that way, but it was the only way to stop him. I was the only on who knew what was happening, but I didn’t want to believe it.
A small sigh reaches Akira’s ears as he looks over at Rei, his best friend in the whole world. He smiles and laughs softly at him as he shoves me off the stool that I was sitting on outside of the school, and leans over to Kaira and pokes her in the side. She giggles softly and pushes him half heartedly and smiles before looking at Akira and specking to him ”Akira what’s wrong? You seem cut off from the rest of the world, did something happen today at school?” She gasped before asking “Akira, did someone make fun of how long your hair is?” She asked standing up and walking over to Akira sitting down beside him and wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug going on and on about how mean most kids at their school are.
Akira growled an animalistic growl before pushing away from her and laughing softly “No, no one made fun of me today. I was just thinking about what we were going to do this summer. I mean, what are we going to do?” He asked the group. They all gave each other looks before Akira continued on with what he was saying. “It’s going to be a really boring summer if all we’re going to do is play our shows at the junk yard!” He sighed before kicking a bucket and looking up at Rei. “What are we going to do when Rei graduates this year? He’s going to leave us and go to college soon!” He yelled a little upset that he was going to be losing his best friend.
I stood and walked over to him and set a hand on his shoulder “Calm down little brother, It’s ok! We’ll think of something great to do this summer!” I smiled patting my little brother’s head softly before going back and sitting beside Raine. Stephanie looked at the group “Why don’t we just go somewhere out of town?” She asked her voice soft like a summers rain “I mean, their really isn’t anything to do in this stupid little town anyway.” They all nodded and Akira jumped up “Then let’s make enough money to leave this town for the summer!” He jumped for joy.
I looked over at him and laughed before pulling out my clipboard and drawing on it slightly. Raine leaned over my shoulder to look at it, she gasped as she saw a glimpse of it. My drawing, a picture of a man standing over an officer’s body and laughing, at the time I didn’t know why I would draw such a thing.
She shook her head and smiled at me before giggling as Akira attacked me and held me down trying to look at my clipboard “What are you doing? Writing a love letter to your fake girlfriend?” He asked before laughing as I shoved him off and glared daggers at him “No! I’m not!” I yelled at him before watching his bright blue eyes sparkle and light up coming up with an idea. He looked over at me before grabbing my wrist a little bit to tight but I laughed at him as he looked at the others “Hey guys! Let’s go to the hide out and practice for our show tonight before we make the money It’ll be real fun!” He laughed before dragging all of us off.
At the time I thought nothing of Akira’s actions, I though they were harmless. He pulled us all into the hideout pulling me off to the side and grabbing one of the songs he wrote himself, he titled it ‘Monster’ I thought nothing of the title. He looked up at me with his bright blue eyes that I thought I would get to see for the rest of my life, and begged to me “Big brother!” He said looking up at me “Cain, Can we play this song tonight?” He begged and smiled as I took the song and read it over “This song Akira?” I asked him and smiled as he just nodded at me. My bright red eyes scanned the song again before I smiled at him and nodded “Yeah we’ll do it” I told him before getting on the stage with every one and grabbing my bass.
We all looked over to Akira who seemed to be taking his time getting onto the stage. As he was walking up the steps he fell gripping his sides and letting out a loud scream that could break windows. I set my bass down gently before throwing the song down and running over to my younger smaller brother and setting my hand on his shoulder. Raine looked at him as every ran over “Is he going to be okay?” She asked before I got shoved back and Akira gave an animalistic growl and glared at me his eyes a dull darker blue.
“Don’t touch me!” he growled as he looked at me “I’m not the Akira you know and care for! I’m better.” he laughed before standing and shoving past Kaira and Stephanie, grabbing a gun off the table, and walking over to the door “Don’t follow after me. It’ll just bring you pain” He said before he walked out the door closing it behind him. At the time I thought nothing of what he said, I was just shocked that he would do such a thing to me, His older brother, the one who took care of him when he was a small child.
I stared at the door my red eyes wide and my mouth hanging open. I was lifted to my feet by Rei who shook me out of my trance “Cain!” He said “Akira just left with a gun! You have to go after him!” He said. I nodded and grabbed a gun off the table running to the door and looking back at everyone nodding to them telling them to come after me. Raine shook her head “I’m scared!” She cried before I walked over and hugged her tightly “Don’t be.” was all I said before we all ran out the door.
I watched in shock as Akira shot the young man in the uniform, an officer. He laughed as he watched the blood pool around his feet and the body of the young man. He turned to look at me because he heard me gasp. I shook my head and ran to him grabbing his wrist and knocking the gun from his hand “Akira why?” I yelled “You didn’t have to do that! You can fight it!” Tears came to my eyes as I saw tears come to his too “I don’t think I can big brother.” He shoved me to the ground before picking up his gun and pointing it at my “Goodbye dear big brother, Cain” He said before he went to pull the trigger, but I was faster. He body fell to the ground. I ran over and held him tightly in my arms crying over his body before he looked up at me “T-Thank you brother.” He said before his body fell limp in my arms and I cried over his body. I heard a small scream from Raine and looked at the picture that fell from my pocket that Akira’s hand laid on, the picture I drew, I knew now that it was Akira I was drawing, and I didn’t even know it before. Blood dripped from me as it pooled around the two of us.
He was the black rose in the red rose bush, and he never got to bloom. My dear brother, I miss you and I’m so sorry, my black rose. I still remember that dreaded day.
