History (Some bits in point-form): I was born in a land very different than this-- Japan-- by the name of Tsukihime. I cannot recall the name of my birth region though. My memories there, however, will be forever burned into me. They shaped me into what I am now. The good and the bad.
First thing's first--my clan needed an heir, and as we all know, "heirs" almost always refer to a male child to continue the clan. Where I come from, the men are the warriors and protectors while women are the homemakers and the ones that need protecting. I was the latter. Well when my mother gave birth to me they were disappointed to say the least, my father especially. From that day on I would be neglected, beaten, and overall treated like a piece of dung. I guess I was thankful for one thing my father didn't do though, and that was assault me sexually. My assumption was that he thought I wasn't even good enough for that.
...Oh well, it doesn't matter since my parents are dead now.
You heard me right; they're dead. Perished, gone, murdered. I should probably talk about that part though I feel like skipping it. After thirteen years of abuse I finally had enough. Taking the Hebiyoru family heirloom-- an intricate scythe passed down for generations-- I killed both my parents. My father for abusing me all this time, and my mother for allowing it to happen. They had it coming. Nobody else will convince me otherwise. Anyway, after that my grandfather found me and stopped me from going on a rampage through the clan manor. He was a very kind man and exceptional warrior who accepted me for who I was.
For the next 4 years I would train with him as he taught me how to use a variety of weapons such as katanas, polearms, and kunai. My specialty, he decided, had been staff-like weapons so he gave me the very weapon I used to slay my parents. Taking something off a shelf is one thing, but having such a thing given to you by your only loved one is...special. It instantly became my most prized possession.
My grandfather also told me to hide my gender, or else I would be discriminated against for it and the fact that I knew how to fight. So I changed my name to Tsukimaru and took the Hebiyoru clan name as well, disguising myself as a man. Nobody will know who I really am, unless I can trust them with not just my life, but with my soul.
When I was seventeen my grandfather died-- of old age, mind you-- and I fled with my scythe to a far away village.
• At eighteen she was examining the ruins of a village that had been destroyed by bandits and discovered a wounded man among the wreckage, named Ryusei Seiryuu.
• Seiryuu eventually recovered and became the retainer/general/Right-hand-man of Tsukimaru. They've been pretty much inseparable since.
