Wolfman
I was lured to the Wolfman by promises of Sir Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Torro, and pleased to find Mr. Weaving was in it as well. This is very old school B horror movie, and reminded me both of the Universal horror films from which it was directly descended, but also those old hammer films. This is not a funny post American Werewolf in London film, nor does it seem to be aware of WoD or all the things people have been doing with Shifters in novels for the last couple decades. This is unrepentant, play it straight, old school B werewolf film. It's not high art; it's not trying to say all that much. If you're okay with that; if you want to see what it was like for our parents and grandparents to see those classic horror films for the first time in a theater, then see it. Certainly, the acting was excellent, with Mr. Hopkins in particular doing an excellent job of slowly building an effect all throughout the film. There were no plot twists, I couldn't see coming, but I expect that really. After all, I saw my first monster movie at the age of three weeks, and grew up with classic monster movies as a multiple times weekly thing to watch. I might wish the creature effects were better or that the outdoor filming was as good as the indoor cinematography and set design, but it's a B movie, and that's the way it's always been in B movies. My worry is that it's too old fashioned all around to go over well with audiences.
