I recently wanted to find a way to use up my free time with something entertaining. At the library yesterday, the 23rd Of March, I found that they let people rent CD’s. So I got this CD and decided to write about it. I thought that this would be fun to rent a CD from the library every week and post my thoughts on it every Sunday. They would be random CD’s that I may have never heard. It’s just a thought. Anyhow, on too the CD.
Life in Technicolor-
This song is calming and uplifting. It’s just instruments, not many voices. The song seems to interest me more and more as it goes along. It reminds me of something Owl City would play, and the title reminds me of something from the Almost Alice CD. It finishes and I don’t realize since it fits with the next song, Cemeteries in London.
Cemeteries in London-
It starts quiet, not loud but not too soft. It’s amazing so far and it gets louder. The lyrics are catchy. This song reminds me of the song Styrofoam Plates by Death Cab for Cutie. Though they don’t have many similarities, it simply just reminds me of it. This song loses my interest quickly but it would depend on what mood I was in when I listen to it, and at the moment it fails. But I would fall asleep to it. When I hear it I also think of the movie Where the Wild Things Are.
Lost!-
This song starts of loudly. It’s a very catchy beat and his voice fits well. This song reminds me of U2. I don’t have much to say about this one. It doesn’t affect me. It’s not good or bad. It’s “eh”
42-
I like how this song starts off. Just piano and voice. It’s calming and I love the lyrics- and you can hear it clearly. Though I was hoping it would speed up, but it did not. The song is pretty dark, which I like and it would problem be considered a more depressing song. But I guess it would depend who was listening to it. Then it gets faster. This catches me by surprise. I like this song. Once it speeds up its mostly instrumental. I wish it would have more speaking at this parts but it’s quite fine. You get to the words part and it’s much more happy and uplifting. Very good song.
Lovers in JapanReign of Love-
I like how this song starts off, catchy and quick but not too quick as to confuse a person. This is another song that reminds me of U2, and this one reminds me of a specific song – Beautiful Day. The lyrics fit well, as usual. The song makes me smile. It’s not depressing at all and it’s very upbeat. I hope there are more songs like this on this CD. I believe this will be one of my favorite ones on the CD.
Yes –
Starts off sad... but then guitar pick up and it speeds everything up. It reminds me of someone running through a forest. It’s slow, but the guitar makes it seem much faster. The violin is played beautifully and it almost puts me in a trance. But it doesn’t last for long. His voice is different than most of the songs I previously heard, It’s deeper. The songs good, not a favorite but it would be if the other ones I have yet to hear are amazing.
Viva La Vida-
Amazing song. Its upbeat and the violin at the beginning is simply genius. The lyrics are easily heard and go with the beat to the song. This is also a favorite song. I will probably start singing during it class one day. I don’t know what I could say badly about it. His voice fits well, the rhythm was chosen well, and the lyrics go perfectly. The interlude doesn’t go to long, and it makes it even more beautiful.
Violet Hill –
Starts off with a slow instruments, and I wasn’t ready for the voice at all. I don’t like this song, and the title of it doesn’t seem to fit very well to me, but that is just my opinion. The beat caught me way off guard and just ruined it for me.
Strawberry Swing-
I like how this song starts with a beat then adds another beat, and goes on until voices start singing. Its quiet, their voices, going well with the beat, and its calming to me. I like how the beat stops when they say something beautiful then continues making it a really good “feel good” song. Absolutely Stunning.
Death and All His Friends-
I like the piano but I’m not all that ecstatic about his voice coming in. It maybe just because I’ve heard there other songs just now. The lyrics don’t do anything for me, but the rhythm without his voice is nice. It would be a nice instrumental, in my opinion. But it was still OK.
Anyhow I liked this CD, but it’s not something I would listen to every week. A select few songs would go on my iPod but that’s about it. The Genre is not what I usually listen too but songs are played beautifully and calming, the lyrics tell stories, but his voice is the thing that just puts me off. It’s not bad, but it’s not the usual range I would personally listen to, some songs though it was completely outstanding. But I did enjoy listening to it.
