In honor of my new cousin Emily who was born today I thought me could look at myths dealing with babies.
A baby born on Sunday will be protected from evil spirits. A baby born feet first will have the ability to heal. If they are born with open hands and outstretched fingers they will be prosperous. In Chinese superstitions a baby with thick ears and an inny will have a happy and successful future. They also have a superstition that says that the first object that a baby grabs signifies their destiny. One Scottish superstition was to wrap the baby in their father's garments to protect it from harm. In the Middle Ages it was believed to be bad luck to put new clothes on a new born.
