I was whipped around and a pair of lips meet mine. It was a quick kiss, hurried by the coming guards. It sent a shiver down my spin. The owner pulled back and looked and me with his bright blue eyes. “You will be mine soon.” The owner whispered and ran out the window. I ran to see if he had fallen but there was no sign of him. The guards burst in. “Are you alright ma'am? We heard a scream.” The head guard, Rohath, asked looking around for any intruders. I stood for a second trying to collect myself. “Yes, everything is fine. I just had a nightmare that is all.” I replied in a calm voice. The guards started to leave used to me having nightmares. My dreams were always filled with blood, death, and people I knew nothing about. Only Rohath stayed behind. “I'm fine Rohath you don't not need to worry.” I tried to reassure him and keep the lie from my voice. He bowed his head, “sorry if I speak out of terms my lady, but it seems a bit early for you to be having nightmares. You went to bed not that long ago.” I fidgeted; leave it up to Rohath to know how long it took for me to get nightmares. “You know I would never condone you for your opinion, Rohath.” I said stepping closer to him. “You have every right to be concerned with my will fare, but I tell you the truth. I had a nightmare and was awoken.” By now I was close enough for him to wrap his arms around me and pull me into a hug. I rested my head on his strong chest listing to his heart beat quicken at my touch. I looked up into his bright red eyes. Eyes so common on my people, but looked so beautiful on him. I leaned up and kissed him like so many time before. His soft, moist lips parted and our kiss turned passionate He pulled me close to his body and fell onto my bed. Just before anything could happen I pushed him back. “We must wait till you have my fathers blessing to merry me.”
“I don't want to wait anymore. I have waited since we were both children playing in the field. Since you were crowned princess and I was crowned your royal guard, but because of my love for you and you along I will wait.” He said in defeat and rolled beside me. I curled up next to him. Fitting in perfectly into his side. His arm wrapped around my waist and my head rested once again on his chest. We had been been in love since birth and I never once questioned it. Our people were born in love with the person they will merry and I had always thought it to be Rohath and no one else. That was until the other kingdom came to our borders and I meet the prince of the Blue Dragons. The dragons that flew high in the sky and swam in the water. The one's who shot out water and ice instead of fire. My people once were at war with them before they disappeared to a place were no other could fallow. Soon they were forgotten lost in history. They had arrived earlier today. The prince of the Blue Dragons requesting peace between our people. I looked at him as he talked to my father. His abnormal long black hair framed his thin pale face. It covered over what I had assumed was the gills his kind were rumored to have behind their ears. I had wanted to go and see if it was true but years of training keep me seated next to my father. His outfit did little to hide his muscular body fit from years of swimming and flying. It was a basic brown leather that had no sleeves and fit tight around his body like a second skin. He also wore leather pants but they were black. His eyes lifted towards mine and everything stood still. They were a color I have only scene when flying over the water. A blue so beautiful only God could have created them. His voice was deep and sweet as he addressed my father though he waited a second more before removing his eyes from mine to give him his full attention. “King of the Red Dragons I come here in the hopes of peace.” My father laughed at him.
“Peace!” He roared, “my people know much of your peace. Last time you offered it my great ancestor woke with a knife in his back.”
“I assure you sir that this will not happen. As the prince of the Blue Dragons and only hair to the throne my word is final. If you wish for peace meet me at the borders of the White Dragons to seek the conceal of the wise.”
“The White Dragons?” My father asked. I could tell he was starting to think as to what motive they could have as to send him all the way to the kingdom of the White Dragons.
“You can even decide when to meet there for they have already given permission for us to come.” My father sat back thinking carefully. He glanced my way and said quietly between us. “I am to be kept here longer then I thought. Go down the barracks and prepare the troops for our attack on the Green Dragons.” I had bowed my head and left. All to aware of the blue eyes fallowing me. I looked at Rohath sleeping soundly. He looked so calm and sweet as he slept arm around me. How could I be thinking about the king of the Blue Dragons when my own heart was here in my bed. I closed my eyes and sighed softly, I would worry about the Blue Dragons when I woke.
I rose with the sun shinning in my face. Rohath was long gone probably patrolling the castle and insuring my safety. I rose out of bed and dressed quickly. I opened the window to my balcony and looked out into the red sky of the coming day. “A new day... a new enemy to face” I thought as I looked at the troops gathering in the court yard. They were dressed in full war gear ready to go and fight an army of Green Dragons. I jumped over the balcony edge relinquished my form for that of one much more natural to me. I roared proud to be free as I flew through the sky my wings beating pulling me up. I spun in the air feeling the wind. My kind were not the most graceful of the dragons but that didn't stop me from the love of flight. I landed just behind the men and morphed back into my human form. The men all smiled at me proud of their princess. “How long before you leave?” I asked the one in charge of this section.
“At noon princess but your father wanted us here early in case plans changed.”
“In case plans changed?” I asked not understanding. My father has always been attacking the Green Dragons. They were sport for our people and kept our army's in shape. Why would this be postponed? The guard must have sensed he said something wrong for he apologized and went back to his men. I morphed once more and headed to the very top tower of the castle where my father stayed. I landed on the roof and morphed down. I turned to the guard on duty, “Is my father here?” I demanded. He nodded his head. I slammed the door open and looked for my father in the huge room. He was sitting in his chair by the fire. He turned and looked at me, “My dear to what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Why are the men on stand by not once have you ever waited to attack?” I nearly shouted at him skipping all pleasantries. He sighed as he stood slowly from his chair. He looked so old and tired. I was surprised by this. My father always looked like a strong and powerful King; now though he just looked... tired. “Please sit my dear.” I sat down reluctantly.
