Review Log
This will contain mostly reviews. I will keep spoilers to a minimum where possible, but I can't guarantee spoiler free.
I finished off the Young Avengers things. I was starting to rather enjoy the second volume, but the third one seemed to be short stories after the superhero civil war, which I know nothing about which led to me essentially having to start over. who knew captain marvel was an actual character? Who is this Hawkeye guy? Who's that random unnamed blond that shows up to help them fight that once? You see the problem. I like the actual young avenger characters, but I know so little about the background world and the various franchises that cross over, that I'm constantly stepping into these huge holes no one needs to explain because everyone but me has heard of Ant Man, the Vision, etc.. Which is why I've generally avoided super hero comics. One pretty clearly needs to read all the titles from that publisher for the one title one might be interested in to make sense. I was contemplating picking up the title and giving it a serious try at the end of volume two, because it looked like they might be just possible to follow on their own. The Presents set made it clear i really can't do that. I could try doing the internet research to knit all this together, but I don't think it's worth it for me, even to support better diversity in super hero comics. even if I was really excited to see who patriot was. even though It's cool to see a gay male teen romance handled matter of factly. Even if I occasionally stopped reading just to contemplate how beautifully Eli's hand was drawn in one panel, or the use of light in another. I can see why people would love this, but I think it's like baseball, you have to really be into the details from when one's little for it to be a manageable amount of data.
