It was a good night. The day sucked for the most part, but I think that was to balance out the conversations I had that night with Alex and Kay. I asked Alex to make it up to me for completely spacing out the night before last, and he wanted to know how. I asked him to think of what always makes me happy, what he can give me that always puts that smile on my face. I told him there was no one answer, but that I wanted him to really think about it. I wanted to see what he would come up with. So this is what he told me.

"Time. That's what I can give you that makes you happy. It can manifest itself in many ways. But I think the base is... time. And I'm always happy to give it. When I do something for you, it means I took time out of my day for you. No matter how small, it means I was thinking of you for a time. It isn't something you can package, and since you can never get it back, it's the most valuable thing... and I'll give you some of mine, anytime."

(The profoundness of his statement made me cry tears of joy.)

And on top of that, Kay and I talked about the night that changed everything. That night that she convinced me that as long as I had recognized the need for love, then I was meant to have it. She'd completely forgotten, but we talked about it, and I gained a bit of perspective: You never know what you say or what you do (no matter how small it may seem) that will change somebody's life forever.
