So. Criminal Minds. Before my brain got derailed by where the damned plot was going, I did have some thoughts. It looks like JJ is really gone. This makes me scared they'll take Prentiss too, taking from a show that occasional succeeds at Bechdel's test, to one that can't because they fired all the women but Garcia. Please, please, please, don't fire Prentiss. I do get why it's reasonably to lose JJ if they need to cut costs (finished character arc, peripheral team member, Ic reasons to leave), but I'm already finding I miss those moments with the three women together that popped up now and then. I was finding Garcia's attempts to conform deeply unnerving to the point of it hurting my heart, and the scene with Morgan was deeply, primally satisfying. The Garcia makeover was resonating with things like Breakfast Club, where they took the pretty Gothy Ally Sheedy character who's look reflected who she was and made her over less attractively as the Molly Rigwald character's mini-me and all the guys suddenly thought she was sexy, even though to me she looked awkward and mutilated, a butterfly with wings mangled to look like a caterpiller. I think on a gut level that this plot was going to me about taking a cute full figured woman who's look tells everyone who she is and making her look just like everyone else. I like Garcia just the way she is, and I have no words for how ******** relieved I was that the other characters, and through them, the show's writers feel the same way. Them talking about firing two out of the female cast members had me not trusting them to know why Garcia is special. Let's hope they understand why Prentiss is special too. I still contend if they are axing a second character, it should be Hotch (completed character arc, strong Ic reasons to leave, boring on screen).
