Her beauty on the outside was the opposite of what lied within…
A soulless demon from birth, the creature Oprean was born to rule those who hid in the shadows. She was brought into the world with a sapphire jewel in her hand, and then it disappeared within minutes of her first cry, along with the life of her mother. The priest of the village prophesized that all good in the child’s life would slip away from her, and she would cause nothing of death and darkness among the people. Despite the priest’s warnings, the father kept the child, and raised her like a princess, giving into her every heart’s desire.
Oprean grew up to be a beautiful young women, having many admirers, but none ever daring to confess their love for her, some fearful of being turned down, others feared the stories of her birth and what was to come in her life. Being spoiled all of her life, Oprean wanted to be the richest, most beautiful and powerful woman there ever was. Growing up in a middle class home was not enough for the darkness growing inside of her. She started to practice the dark arts, becoming stronger, offering her services to those more unfortunate, but her services did not come without a price.
Souls. The demon could not have enough of them. There had been tales about people who needed them to survive, none of them ever spoke of the creatures being good. Those wanting their greatest wishes to come true would give their up to the demon in a heartbeat, thinking she was heaven sent. She started to become stronger and slowly she started her rule over the village, then her darkness inched further and further into the lands, taking over as much as she could.
The priest knew something had to be done, so he went back to the demons father, now an old man, lying on his death bed. He told Oprean’s father that he was the only one who could kill the demon by poisoning her with pure good. The father’s heart ached at hearing the words, but he knew he had to stop his daughter, other wise she could destroy the world with her evil. Once the father agreed, the priest created a potion that would send the evil out of Oprean’s body, but kill her in the process.
Oprean’s father poured the potion into a dish, one his daughter could not refuse. He found her hidden in a dark palace within the mountains, planning her next attack on a further off city. She was overjoyed to see her father, the one time the girl ever smiled or showed any hope of being good, she happily accepted the dish, not thinking twice about it as the father turned his back to her before he changed his mind.
The poison took effect right away, his daughter choking on her own evil as it, and the stolen souls, left her body. As she slowly started to pass away, something darker within whispered one last time to her father…
“I will return.”
