Never play hide and seek alone. It's fun when you're it, but when she starts looking... ...you'd better pray you won't be found.
Prologue
Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick. That clock just goes on forever. Every day, hour, minute, every single second. Unrelenting, never stopping, never waiting for anyone to catch up. Just continues on and on, no matter the pain it causes to everyone and everything. No matter how many lives it takes. I'm probably going to be one of it's victims. But who cares anyway? Not my mom, not my dad, not my classmates, not my teachers. Honestly, I don't care if I don't wake up tomorrow. But I will, I know that, because time just drags you down into the depths with it. Hm... but say... say I didn't wake up. Say all this pain really did end. I would finally be able to let go of the puppet strings attaching me to time. But how do I know I'm not shackled to it instead? How do I know time won't put a collar on me, even when I'm done? Would this empty soul of mine be dragged around on it's back? Would I not be given any rest? There's only one thing that keeps me from finding. Her. My younger sister. Barely in kindergarten. So innocent, so pure, so.... so not tormented. Mom fawns over her. Dad almost didn't leave us because of her. So happy, so carefree. She's the only one who notices my existence. No matter how much I try to push her away, so she isn't involved with this stupid dilemma of mine, she doesn't listen. She just smiles, nods, laughs, and keeps talking to me. I'm going through so much, and the last thing I would want to do is cause her grief. I mean, she tries, at least. She doesn't deserve anything. If I ever do leave, I want to slip quietly, unnoticed. Hopefully forgotten. But she just won't let go. She clings to me. It's nice, I guess. Or rather, it's not bad. I just wish she wouldn't get herself tangled up in the net of my life. So I live another day. Another agonizing, average, boring day. But she doesn't notice. She just nods, smiles...
...and laughs.
Chapter 1
The bell rang, just as he opened his eyes to wake up. Two periods down, another five to go. He packed up his books, took a tired breath, and left. Down the busy, noisy hall. He passed through in a blur, not bumping anyone, not entering anyone's sights. Silently, like wind. But it was like that everyday, nothing new.
