N.V.G.R. #21 Injustice: Gods Among Us
"There are an infinite number of universes. Some are just like our own ...but for one or two significant events, exactly the same."

When the premise of this game was first released last year, many gamers, such as myself, were a bit skeptic to see another DC fighting game developed after the MK Vs. DC bust. Nevertheless as more character trailers emerged and the demo was released, it was clear that this game would become a smash hit.

Injustice is a masterpiece boasting a clean fighting engine developed and slightly modified from MK9. A huge roster of 24 DC heroes and villains ranging from the ever popular Superman to the obscure Killer Frost. Despite being developed by Netherealms there are not Fatalities to be found, but fret not. Incredible super moves are included for each character which are overall impressive to watch and devastating when executed. Unlike MK9, the dedicated block button has been removed and blocking is now like all other fighting games. Characters use 3 buttons to do basic attacks and can activate special moves similar to MK9 by pressing direction combinations before hitting the proper attack button. However the 4th button is the Character trait buttons. These can do things such as the Flash slowing down time to make the opponent move sluggishly or Wonder Woman changing from using her lasso to her sword and shield. In most cases like the Flash's, these have a wait period before they can be used again while Wonder Woman's can be changed at the user's free will.

The storyline is well written and very dramatic. In summary, during the latest Joker terrorist attack, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Aquaman are transported to an alternate universe where that universe's Joker tricks Superman into killing Lois Lane and his unborn son. Filled with grief and rage, Superman forms a new world order, the Regime, which rules over the world with an iron fist, stamping out all crime in a ruthless manner. However opposing this is the Insurgency, a group of rebels trying to stop Superman's ruthless reign, lead by none other than Batman, who summoned the heroes to his world to help stop Superman's reign. The story boast 12 chapters, each centered around 1 of the characters of the main story including Aquaman, Cyborg, alternate reality Lex Luthor, and the DC Holy Trinity. Each chapter is littered with multiple fights and even some minigames. Overall the it is an enjoyable experience much like MK9 was but with the DC writers writing it.

The gameplay itself is very well executed and really makes each character feel and play different from the others. Characters are classified as Power characters (like Hawkgirl and Sinestro) or Gadget characters (Like Harley Quinn and Catwoman) Stages are interactable and certain areas can provide additional ways to attack or escape opponents. However these can create unfortunately ruthless openings that most expert players can easily exploit and destroy health bars with devastating combos. Luckily these can be turned off if it proves to be too one-sided.

Nonny's Rating: 8.5/10. A solid fighting game worthy of the DC brand and an excellent storyline that really can make you dislike Superman (or at least one version of him.)

Nonny's Characters: Deathstroke, Nightwing, and Green Lantern
