Chronicles of the Lost Thought:
Moonflower Pt. 3
Moonflower Pt. 3
There's a surprise I really want you to see...
The night wasn't that cold.
But it was a windy one compared to the rest of the nights. Warm air condensed by cold breezes are a common to my parts. Spring nights were the same all over. Just the temperature of winds that make it so erratic.
I still remember stories told about a flower so rare, it only opens at night... dispersing it's fragrance, then withers afterwards. Dama de noche. The Dame of Night.
She was the center of attraction while she lasted.
The little girl tugged at the hems of my shirt as she walked along the paved walks. She always tugged. Never did she stood there and walked silently, as if she was catching something up.
The dame of night was a prized flower. It always holds a nice trophy if you ever got one pictured in it's full bloom. Let alone got one in it's withered state. It's rarity stands to the topmost lists throughout the world.
"Here... faster!... we're gonna be late!!", she ushered. A continuous phrase of rambling followed.
"Its gonna be great!"
"You really should see it!"
"Really! You'll be amazed!"
"You really should see it!"
"Really! You'll be amazed!"
Finally she stopped through a fenced gate. We ended up in the corner of the subdivision's gates. Up where the signs are held up by high steel posts aiming at the passing vehicles. She walked through the twisted wires like nothing had hindered her through.
Sheesh... Meanwhile I climbed jumped the rickety thing, almost bending down when I reached the highpoint of the fence, almost ripping my pants on a faulty jump.
"There!", she pointed. A small flower. It's bloom yet to open.
A moonflower. Of all the chances. Of all the hundreds of millions of miles the world has. It grew here. A place most ignored by all.
"Isn't it pretty - a moonflower - you know about moonflowers?", she asked, her questions ever echoing to my ears. "Hey~ DeVars..."
"A moonflower...", I said quietly, in a blank glance at the young bud, hugging her in amazement. "I... can't believe it."
She erupted a smile, though I could only guess. You cannot judge persons perceived by parallel vision that clearly. It may have been that she laughed. But she followed it on with a giggle, and a squirm to get out of my hold.
I loosened up with arms to her and stooped close to the waxing bloom, not lifting an eye out of it - watching every bit of petal slowly letting out a beauty. The moonflower now slowly starts it's age-old ritual.
It could be well said she danced in merriment, upon seeing the flower opening up this wake of night. I could only hear her light steps up an about, her frequent visits and leans to my shoulder as she came on to and fro watching glimpses of the flowers life slowly letting it's full. And etching out.
It was a sweet moment the flower opened it's bloom. The fragrance immediately lifted towards the air in a surrounding pleasure. Something sweet. something relaxing. It was like the best of all the flowers you had ever in your life.
I came about and looked back at her, pointing at the flower. "Hey~ you should..."
There was no more of the girl there. A smiling young lady was with me, tilting her head and giving somewhat a puzzled smile. For a quick debate, she had been wearing the same dress the young one had... only bigger. She slowly treaded to my direction and opened her arms wide.
It engulfed my body as I stare there in wild confusion. She had already came too close. I felt her head nudged in and rested to my chest and with a soft whisper she echoed words familiar to us both.
Missed me?
