Chapter One
It was dark, and cold. The world was shut down and everything was still. Nothing could be seen and nothing was heard. It was peaceful. It was happy.

Through the darkness, a small breeze began to blow. Leaves chattered quietly amungst themselves high up in the trees and tumbled across the cold, hard dirt on the ground. A shiver ran up the young girls spine as she stood in the darkness.

Footsteps. She could hear footsteps. They were quiet and faint, but she could hear them. It was obvious. She listened for the footsteps and they became louder. They echoed through her mind and she knew. They were coming right for her. She took one step forward, crunch. She hesitated but then took another, crunch. The footsteps became louder and louder. She was bringing them right to her.

The young girl could hardly see, it was too dark. The leaves continued chattering. She began running. She had to get away. She had to leave. She couldn't let them get to her. Footsteps were bad. She couldn't let them get to her.

She ran as fast as you could if you were in the dark. Trippin over fallen branches. Her harms were held out in front of her, making sure she wouldn't run into any trees. There was no moonlight. And there was no way of seeing. It was cold and she was shivering. It was so hard to run when she was shivering.

Amungst the footsteps, she heard laughter. Not the gentle, fun laughter. No, this was dark and cold, just like the night she was stuck in. Her hands ran into something. At first, she thought it may be a tree. But, going around it, it had an edge. It had to be a structure of some kind. She found the door handle and turned it. It opened. 'Finally. Something is going my way' she thought to herself before slipping in and shutting it behind her quietly.

She could hear those footsteps, and that laughter. But something else was playing through the air. A voice. Someone was talking. Saying something-but what? She couldn't figure out what it was saying. She didn't know what the words were.

The house was darker than the woods, and she could no longer find the door. What was happening? How could this be happening? And why was she even here? All of these questions were racing through her mind. The footsteps were so close, they had to get her. And that laugh, the creepy, dark, cold laugh stopped. And the words. They were clear now. "Get out".

The young girl laid in her bed, fast asleep. But not a sleep that was peaceful or comforting. She laid there, clutching her blanket, longing to do anything but sleep. All she wanted was to wake up. Her legs kicked and her arm slammed against the bed railing, breaking open the skin. But her mind had her, right where it wanted her. She was a victim.

"I said get up!" the voice said again, so clearly, causing the young girl to jump awake. She looked around and saw an older woman standing over her. It was her boss. "I am so sorry" her voice shook as she sat up quickly. "You were having a nightmare" her mother said, shaking her head and going towards the door. 'A nightmare. It was just a nightmare' she told herself as she laid awake.

But, something was tugging at her mind. That was so real. A shiver found its way down her spine as she laid in bed, not wanting to move. She couldn't move. She just laid there.
