Regalia: Alchemy and Aeons

A Regalia (Singular and Plural Form) is an alchemic device that allows for its user to perform alchemy. It stands as a medium between the person and the desired effect; it is often considered a computing mechanism that rallies together the conditions for alchemy to effectuate. These can be any number of things: stockpiling pushions, structuring psionic designs (alchemic circles) or replacing them and communicating with the registry (Monad). Though the alchemic process can be anything, most Regalia come with a predetermined theme for alchemy: this more or less restricts the type of alchemy that is being performed, though a skilled alchemist can circumvent this. Noted, alchemy performed outside of a Regalia’s theme won’t be as powerful as it could be when performed with a Regalia whose theme covers the desired effect.

The theory supposes that the user’s perspective sets up the walls for the alchemic product to manifest in (i.e. crafting fire spells based on what they know and believe fire to be). Regalia, in this sense, are concrete representations of a user’s perspective when it comes to alchemy, but not necessarily their own outside of this practice. The appliance of this limitation is mainly done for pragmatic reasons, creating shortcuts to a user’s alchemic repertoire versus a generalized approach that creates constructs from scratch. Most alchemic research in Eden, for example, is done by programming various psionic designs upon the surfaces of an object in a microscopic scale. These can be anything—guns, cellphones, watches, books, swords, vehicles, so on.

Taking this into consideration, Regalia carry with them their own world—their own perspective. The user merely supplies the content of these worlds with energy. This can’t be done without first ‘tuning’ the user with the Regalia, of course; Regalia are quite personal objects that aren’t meant for more than one user. Though there are various copies of the same Regalia, they can’t be used without tuning themselves with the user. Tuning is basically the process of aligning the user’s pushion output with that of the Regalia in question—a sort of resonance. This can be achieved through meditation, sealing or (in case of Eden officials) ‘baptizing’. Sealing and baptizing share the same method of having an external source align both the Regalia and user to each other, but they differ in ritualism. Sealing can be performed by the same person that sells or distributes the Regalia—though Pleroma holds many whom are professional tuners yet not necessarily Regalia merchants. Baptism is performed by Pleroma’s Orthodox Church, and their capability to align a Regalia with its user is far greater than any other conventional tuner.

Likewise, one may have more than one Regalia. Claire’s Regalia, for example, are called Save the Queen and Save the King. Both of them rapiers, they represent the different aspects of Claire’s ability—as the host of the Aeon Alethea—called Synthesis, which allow her to tinker with the True/False State of an object. Its thematic alchemy route is that of Light, and as such, most of her alchemic constructs revolve around it—sharing the same values with Divine and Spiritual theme routes. Because of this, her tuning is accounted for by the Church, which in turn facilitates the acquisition of Holy themes for her Regalia like the ones mentioned. This also means that not just anyone can tune her Regalia, a feat that outside of the church has only been met by Noah. It’s important to note, however, that being apart from one’s Regalia doesn’t render them unable to use them; Regalia hold the peculiarity of being linked to their user upon tuning, which allows them to be called/summoned through save-load functions found in alchemic constructs.

Some Aeon hosts subconsciously transform objects around them into Regalia, as was the case for Noah. The host of the Aeon Nous, Noah’s ability is called Mnemosyne, which allows him to create Save/Load States—a form of vector manipulation. His main Regalia (of the same name) are his glasses; upon breaking them and mentioning their name, he entangles the world of his Aeon with his own—essentially shifting the paradigm that his immediate perspective works by. Because Mnemosyne’s Theme is Logic, it requires and demands specific paradigms to be established for its use outside of simple Save/Load State programming. This is what led Noah to develop the Black Chess Set as a multi-paradigm network of Save/Load States. Upon breaking his glasses and saying Mnemosyne as a sort of password, Noah enters this network where he not only shifts paradigms (rules/laws that structure the ‘world’ of his alchemy), but also gains control of secondary Regalia or sub-Regalia: These are called Gungnir and Mjolnir, psion and pushion calibrators, respectively. A Logic type/theme, Mnemosyne is capable of branching into secondary typologies such as Time, Space and Force.

Unlike others, Aeon Hosts don’t require Regalia to perform alchemy since their Aeon connects them with the plane that alchemic processes are using psionic designs to connect. In other words, they can communicate with the registry unaided by alchemic constructs. What Regalia provide for Aeon Hosts in this context is an amplification to their power. Their particular abilities should serve as an example of their relationship with alchemy, for they are manifestations of the alchemic process itself: Save/Load States, Resonance/Dissonance States (Xaphriel’s Case) and True/False States, for example, are all aspects of alchemic formulae. Being connected to the Aeons provides their Hosts with an increased affinity to these alchemic functions. That being said, this only covers the most basic yet fundamental details of Regalia.
