This has appeared in my face twice in the past two days. It's actually rather petty. I'm trying to lay off on petty squabbles, but due to a concern for the young impressionable minds on the site and the internet, and the acknowledgement that this term appears frequently in professional correspondences and technical writing, I thought it is worth mentioning.
When you want to say something to the effect of "and so on", it isn't "ect." It's "etc". T before the C. It is short for "et cetera", meaning "and other similar things" or "and so forth" in Latin. ET Cetera.
If you mean to mess up the spelling on purpose, then by all means, you be you. But for the well intentioned folk hoping to leave a spelling errors free impression, consider using the proper spelling, etc.
