Fresh New Can Of Worms - Now with 50% more worms! Two weeks ago when I met with Swarf, we were in a coffee shop looking through the code and he pointed to the folder holding the build script for compiling the zOMG server code... Swarf: This is the build script, you type in "ant -f build-zomg.xml" and the script will create the java executable. You can try it out, but it'll complain about missing dependencies since you don't have the right tools installed and configured. Me: Okay, let me try the command... "ant -f build-zomg.xml" [.... 5 pages worth of compilation messages ...] Build complete. Swarf: ... wow, that's not supposed to happen sweatdrop Turns out 3 weeks ago I was fixing Monster Galaxy, and in the process I installed and configured what happened to the same set of tools that were used to compile programs. While trying to debug why the orbs aren't showing up, I had to go back to the source code and start debugging. I'm lucky that I had the right environment setup before, which saved a bunch of time. BUT... After tracing through the server code for a day, looks like all the data were handled correctly. Problem did not rest between the database and the zOMG server. As I just upgraded the server, I thought that the new server must have been the culprit, but I was wrong. gonk Looks like the problem might be on the Flash client side, which will take much more time to debug. Faced with the task of compiling the Flash client, this time I don't have the right environment setup, and the task will take a long time... The only silver lining here is that I now have the knowledge and ability to adjust the gold granting amount, and gold curve, since I learned everything about the server while debugging the orb problem. I think the sun is about to rise... time to hit the sac!

Your health is more important than zOMG. We never thought there would be a chance to have it back so knowing that you're working on it is enough. If it takes longer then it takes longer. We'd rather wait and have a healthy Lanzer. heart

Dunno if staying up so late is normal for you, but you should make sure you get plenty of sleep. Going from "Its too expensive to fix" to having you actively working on it has already made many of us happy and hopeful. We can wait if you need more time to work on it. ^.^

Good luck with your work. Fixing the gold curve would help with most players in Gaia. Flash is tricky as hell but it would be something worth the accomplishment when done.

This entry has answered few of my questions. I just hope Overlord Waffles lets you rest every so often.

For those of you noting his late nights- That seems to be when he gets things done. Not sure if it's from fewer people on the servers or what, but it might just be Overlord Waffles not wanting him to rest until it is done.

Take care of yourself. That's a thousand times more important than anything else. There is no rush. People know you're trying your hardest, and it definitely shows, so they will wait for as long as it takes. Your heath is the top priority. Rest well!

So many people I know seem to get more done code / electronics design wise late into the night.

Is it the level of light OR the lack of interruption from other people? My partner (codes Assembler / C, and designs electronics for retrofitting a linear accelerator from 1950-1960ish) usually says lack of interruptions -- but then is chattering away on facebook half the night. Possibly that it is choosing the interaction, rather than random people potentially stopping into the office with a question / less likely to have phone calls?

At any rate: *sends lots of hugs*

Are there likely to be problems with versioning of Flash (from them, versus now and any security patches that may have come up?) If it gets up and running without too much pain, any eventual dreams of it being rewritten in HTML 5 for easy usage on mobile?

Hey Lanzer! You're doing such a great job and really trying hard to bring back zOMG. It's greatly appreciated. You need to get your sleep, though and don't stress it. Like Thranduil said, "I'm patient. I can wait."

Question: Are you rewriting a new version of the game or are you trying to bring back everyone's current place in the game; ie. levels, orb counts, rings, etc. If you think it's taking too long to fix the bug/s, then why not take the original code and do a restart. Meaning everyone starts fresh. We turn in all our zOMG items and start over. That way you might could drop the server issue and bypass it all together. If it's completely integrated into the code and you can't tell which is which, I really feel for you and just ignore my comment. *hugs*

Get some much earned rest. We're cheering for you.

This actually has me really excited! I miss ZoMG... didn't think I'd ever get to see it again.

Maybe later down the line could you look at adjusting fishing?
Makes me sad I can't even be nostalgic and buy a mask, because the rare ones are pretty much nonexistent in the market..
Maybe increase the rate of the old rares, and add new rares for people who are concerned about making a profit off the game...
But in general I'd like to see the game get some new life as well, it is a fun concept, just not so casual friendly. xD

I'll be honest, because of the total bombardment I ended up losing interest in the economic/avatar side of Gaia, and after a couple years now I thought I'd just finally grown out of the site completely... but hearing about these GAMES getting new life actually has me excited and looking forward to playing. I am so glad you are back. <3

Take care of yourself first. We can wait and, if for some reason, you can't revive zOMG as least this time we'll know you really tried. When it was taken down a lot of players felt betrayed because we didn't believe it couldn't be saved; we felt like we didn't matter (pretty much a FU from Gaia). It is obvious you care about this site and it's users, which makes a huge difference to me. So thank you and please take care of yourself.

I think a complete remake of zOMG (with newer graphics etc) would be best, but I know that would take a lot of work and time.

Honestly we have no problem waiting at all. I for one have been wanting zomg to come back since it's been gone and now it's been years. I can wait another year if I had too. I love this game and you're amazing for trying to fix it but you can take your time babe 💜 health comes first. Relax and take a break if needed. You're doing all you can smile
