A few pictures to add. The first is a stoneware bowl with a wide rim. Approximate dimensions are 2 inches high and 8-1/4 inches wide. I decided to throw this bowl with an exaggerated wide rim so I could alter the piece and give it a lace like appearance. The glaze is called Iron Red, which is a dark reddish brown with a metallic like gloss. I call the piece "Iron Lace." The second bowl was thrown using a brown clay which naturally has iron oxide in it. This gives the piece when it is finished a brown speckled appearance. The bowl has fashioned from a bean pot design. The handles were made from twisting three thin coils of clay which were attached to the bowl. Approximate dimensions are 4 inches high and 6 inches wide. Since most casseroles have a tendency to bubble over when cooked, I wanted the glaze to mimic that affect. The entire bowl was dipped into a layering glaze which is slightly white (against this brown clay body; more yellow against lighter clay bodies) but opaque. Then I dribbled Randy's Red glaze around the rim, allowing it to down both the inside and outside of the bowl. This piece is called "Melt Down."
