Ashes
Decided to post my story here. I like stories. Its nice.

Blood of the Moon
Chapter One: Ashes

Smoke rose in the air; its scent could be smelled from miles away. Screams echoed in the valley as the village burned in a blaze of flame. Horses galloped away from the village in panic, trampling everything in its path. Before the gates of the village, stood a dumbstruck little girl, her face covered in ash from the burned huts.

Laughter rang in her ears, and a vivid image replayed in her mind. Tears filled her eyes, as she focused on the limp form of her mother. Trails of soot and tears marked her face.

"Run!"

The voice echoed in her mind, but she stood still. Men riding on horses came towards her, and village folk, those who were still alive tried to run after them.

"Yuri! Run!"

She felt herself being lifted by strong arms. She could hear screams fade, and the smoke began to disappear behind the forest. Yuri knew she should be afraid, but she felt no fear. She felt no hatred. She felt - empty.

Dorian sat quietly by his mother as she petted his head. It was a typical afternoon in the palace. Blue eyes surveyed the grand throne room. Sliding doors were open to the mountainside. His chubby fingers grasped his mother's as she began to nod off. He wriggled free from her grasp, and began to walk towards the balcony, hearing soft pounding of hooves.

"Father's home!" he yelled with glee, long silver hair trailing behind him as he ran towards the north exit.

"Dorian."

The soft voice stopped him from moving any further. He turned around, and faced his mother. Her soft green eyes looked into his with love and compassion. Her wavy brown hair cascaded down the front of her dress. She made her way towards him and smiled. She produced a garland of daisies for him.

"Give it to your father," she said sadly, knowing his return meant the success of another conquer. "Tell him its from me."

Dorian nodded, slightly confused. But his mother always gave him a garland of flowers. He never knew what they were for, or what his father did to them. But he loved his mother enough to carry on with her requests.
