First and Final
Young warrior, take thy sword in hand, Defeat the bane of our fair land. Our people starve, we cannot fight, The crushing power of Xantan’s might. The once-clear streams run blacke with grime, Insidious poison of Ixirul’s slime. Among the mists, dark demons creep, Our children are afraid to sleep, And many a warrior, tried and failed To complete this quest and win the grail. But thou, young warrior, unlike the rest, Have strength enough to pass the test. Trained in the manner of a hero, With steel sword and bow and arrow, I beg of you, with aching heart, Are you prepared to do your part?
Please, let me fight, I am prepared. The quest is in my sight. Deepest woods nor caves nor hills, Will stop me in my fight. I have the strength, the faith, the will, To vanquish these cruel foes. Demons! Taste my thrice-forged steel! The first of all your woes!
Young warrior, thou art brave, Our people, you shall yet save. Yet I must warn you of your fate, And innumerable dangers the evil ones create. First, to the dark cave, for Ixirul’s ring, Then south, to the ruins, the staff you must bring. Then further west to the temple of Rue. To defeat the Arch-Magus is hard to do. Then, the Maze of Kai you must complete. To have come thus far is a marvelous feat. At long last, great Xantan will be your foe. Yet you have strength to conquer, I know. Beyond that, I will say little, but heed only this: Fight well and your powers shall not go amiss. Listen to guidance and all will be well, And centuries from now, your story we’ll tell, Of how you stormed the mighty tower And defeated Xantan’s evil power!
