I woke up to the graceful, piece of junk of a teller of time. I knew it was going to be one of those days, and I should have just slept the entire day through, But my better judgment told me to get up, So I did…...six times.
As I walked in the living room, I heard the front door slam. Liz must have been late for work at least ten minuets, found a note on the kitchen counter saying “Leftovers in the fridge, Loved the chicken. This months Rents on the back, Liz”. Not that I don’t appreciate Liz, but you would think that a girl would be tidier. I took a plate of the basil chicken, and went to take a gander outside. It was raining, gray. Cold, then suddenly I realize a tear ran down my cheek…maybe it was…no, never mind…I ate a bit of the chicken…It was bland and dry……
I took the trolley to Third Avenue, Even though I could of walked to work, But it was a lot more Convenient. The trolley was full of people, a child and his mother, school girls Giggling, A couple hugging each other…I got off at Fifth Avenue…I needed the exercise anyway. It was a short walk to the little green pub called “The Jaded Bird”, as I walked in I saw Mr.Gambino taking inventory of the mixes of drinks and Tonics. As usual He was a bit startled when I told him I was going to check in.
I don’t really think he notices me, this has happened ever since I started working here for half a year, But I think he’s getting used to it.
As the day went on, It got a little boring just sitting behind the bar, I got to wonder if My life was going to be like this every day. Then Mr.Gambino came to me; “you got a phone call” he said “who is it?” I asked him. He told me it was my mother, I asked him to tell her I just stepped out. He looked at me very strangely, Then went back on the phone. “Bad mood?” He asked. “Not really…it’s really just Difficult to talk to my mother…” I said. “Why don’t you get the night off?” he said, with a small smile “I got every thing here, It’ll be slow night.” I thanked him and headed out. When I got back, Liz was on the couch watching T.V.
“your off abit early.” She said. “Gusse today’s been my lucky day” I replied sarcasticly.
“ya know..” she jerked “ Kate called today asking for you..” she said with that wittly smile of hers. I rolled my eyes over and said “oh gawd, Spare me the details, I swear, that is the last time your taking out to drink with your college buddies.” She laughed and bid me Good night as I went into my room and blacked out…..
It was raining again as I was again as I took out the trash. As I came back I saw Mr.Gambino talking to two guys in Dark coats. When they left Mr.Gambino look abit worried. When I asked him who they were, He just said “oh..i..it was nothing..just some old friends…heh yeah..” He was sort of stammering when he said they told him that a old friend had died. I wondered about it but then lost the though of it. Later on in the day, to my surprise, Liz came in and sat at the bar.she was wearing a botton white blouse with dress pants on. I couldn’t really remember when was the last time she went to this bar. She smiled at me as she slicked her hair slightly back. “what are you doing here?” I asked. “oh I’m just meeting some guys from work.” She said; “give me a Blue star Light, On the rocks.” The drink was pretty simple to make, she was surprised that I made it so quickly. one by one, Guys in gray suties with sleazy hair, came in. she greeted them as they walked in. As I was getting other orders I kept on noticing the guys were getting awfully friendly with Liz, For some reason There was a burning little fire of rage building up.Liz didn’t really noticed it let alone mind it. I gusse it was from all the drinks she had.After awhile they left together laughing saying about a karaoke bar somewhere across town.
