After seeing 95% of Gaia's serious debating, thats supposed to take place in the Extended Discussion (or Gaia's ED), dissolve into petty insults via direct posting or through PM's, I posted the following below in my signature...
Resorting to insults is a sign that one has lost their head and left off the debate for childish behavior. A sure sign that one is not mature enough for serious discussions and debating. The need to get-back-at-someone for a percieved offense (usually caused by another not having the same views as said person) is not for discussions and only causes the topic to splinter and lose focus. Freedom of speech is great. But freedom of emotions, especially when those emotions encourage one to incorporate insults to others in their vocabulary, have to be controlled or the topic only leads to chaos. I get insulted all the time and have been put on ignore lists. Seems too much like intolerance and sensorship to me. But I've yet to insult someone else or put anyone on my ignore list regardless of how much they disagree with me. Discussion is not about who can lay down the best oneliner or winning a topic. It's about finding out what others think and believe in, and why. "
I wasn't surprised when I received more insults! rofl
