Diary of an Demon
Part of Chapter 1 for the story I'm writing called Cataclysmic Fate's

“Sir, do you really think it’s wise to trust the fate of a four month long operation in the hands of some unknown kid? The men are highly against it, I doubt they even cooperate with him.” One of the squad leaders said, trying to reason with their General.

“I don’t care how much your men are against it, I’ve seen what he can do in the heat of battle. Makes all of those trained men of yours look like infants with their skills.” He snapped back on his way out of the briefing room.

A few halls down, a second briefing was about taking place. This was where that so-called monstrosity that would probably win this meaningless war was waiting. The door slid open as the General slipped in. In the back corner of the room he barely noticed him. His black armor blending perfectly with the shadows of the poorly lit room.

“Let me guess, they’re all afraid of me and what might happen should I lose it again?” he asked as he stood up.

“Well that’s part of it. They don’t seem to think too highly of you because they think you’re taking their jobs.” The General said with a laugh.

“So they’d rather be out their killing and being killed then being at home with their families? Worst idea I’ve heard in years, and you’ve given me some fairly odd ones yourself.” He said with a smile across his face.

“They were trained to kill, as you were, so placing them in normal society is no smarter an idea then placing you in normal society.” The General barked.

“Hey now! I lived quite the normal life before you showed up.” He shouted, his temper flaring a bit.

“Calm down, let’s just get this over with so both of us can hurry and leave. You should already know what to do. Find their base located somewhere deep within the Monu Mountains and do what you do best, then get back here with as many men alive as possible. Remember, the more alive, the more we pay you.” He reminded him before leaving the room.

Izu was a bit shaky on this one. Four months in enemy territory would mean a lot of killing. Too much bloodshed and the dark inside him would come back out dealing inevitable death to any whom crossed his path. His powers frightened people, and sometimes even himself. He shook off the thoughts and visions of the last outbreak and left the shadowed room. Upon entering the main briefing room, he felt a feeling of fear and disgust. A few complaints came from soldiers he had already battled with before, the new recruits just stared.

He disregarded their comments and headed over to the armory to collect his gear. As he grabbed it he looked it over. Once again, nothing was in any good shape. Neither of his two blades had been sharpened, and his gun was still empty. Typical, they wanted him unprepared in battle, hoping for something to go wrong and him end up wounded or dead. As hard as they tried, it never worked. He could sharpen his blades himself and find ammo on the people he killed, and there was always the option of using his fist. His last option was his powers.

Entire cities could fall to his power, or only an individual, he won’t know how strong it will release itself until he uses it. This “gift” as some called it caused most people to put quite the distance between themselves and him. There was an exclusion from this behavior. Her name was Yumi, and she had been there for him since he gained his powers and helped him to control. Or at least she used to. A couple months after receiving them, he was eager to test them; she was assigned to make sure he stayed stable when using his abilities.

As his power grew, his sanity left him with ease, making him mindless with rage and power. She tried to calm him down, but there was no getting through to him, she seemed a threat. Before he even had a chance to think, he had raised his sword and drove I clean through her midsection. As the blood poured out from her, a pool of darkness poured from him then seeped into the ground. He tried as hard as he could to bring her back, but couldn’t do it alone. Luckily there was still tissue that went undamaged and they were able to clone her. It was her, in every way, aside from the random blackouts. They couldn’t be explained by anyone except as a side effect of the cloning. Shaking the memories and visions again he sheathed his blades and holstered his gun, then moved to the center of the room.

“All right listen up. I know most of you don’t care or me too much. A few of you don’t know me, but have heard from the others what kind of monster I am. I’m not here to deny it, I was made to do this, just as you were. For those who have witnessed what I’ve done, I hope you can forgive or forget once more as we fight out there again. For those who are new, just pay attention and stick with your squads, not me. It’s and easy way to get killed, and I’m being held accountable for all your lives for the next four months, and I’d prefer to bring you all back alive, I’m sure all of you would like to come home too.” He announced, letting it all sink in before he went on.

“What makes you think we’ll be out for four months? It’ll take one and a half to get there and maybe a week to clear the base, then its back home right?” One of the veteran soldiers asked.

“Wrong, we don’t have a ride home this time. They gave us four months because we have to walk back here. Now listen, we are bound to run into close to one thousand troops, and I think you older troops know what may happen. Squad leaders, you know the signs, if you see any of them, get your men away and keep them away for at least 3 hours. That’s also why we have four months, they know what will happen to me out there, at least once.” He said with a sigh at the end.
