I actually haven't worked on this one for a while but I think I want to make this one my FY baby. 8D Lots of revisions are to be expected, no da.
But anywho, this is the story of when a pair of muggle-loving witches find a certain book in the restricted section..
Deidre sprinted down the corridor, zigzagging through the clusters of students. They gawked at seeing a third year Hufflepuff push through a rather close knit Slytherin group, earning her some sneers and curses. None of this fazed her though. Her mind was set on getting to her destination, quickly. Nearly waist length waves of chestnut-colored hair flew behind her, the years of not cutting it having paid off. Her second-hand satchel flung side to side from her shoulder, weighed down with books. In her hand she clutched a beat-up, ragged looking book of average size, dusty red in color.
Deidre struggled to keep balance as she rounded a sharp corner. "Augh--!" As luck would have it, she ran into something- or someone- rather roughly. She fell to the ground, cursing.
"And what, Miss Virus, is the reason for such a hurry in which you cannot simply walk?" To her horror, she lifted her gaze to none other than Professor Snape, the Potions master. The greasy git had it out for her. she knew it. Such was the price of having her amusement with him. Yet she couldn't find it in her to regret the day she met her best friend. It was due to her infatuation and humor they took their amusement out on the professor.
"Well, I'm waiting Miss Virus. …You silly girl, get up! It's unbecoming of you to lay sprawled on a dusty corridor floor." Her reverie was shot and with a squeak she scrambled to shove her books back into her satchel, which had fallen out in the crash, before jumping to her feet.
"Er, Sorry! Y'see I was in a bit of a hurry and I wasn't really paying attention to where-"
"Apparently not," He interrupted with a sneer. She hated when he did that. Interrupt, the sneer was rather attractive at times, even Deidre would admit. "Five points will be taken from Hufflepuff for your lack of consideration for the rules; Such as running in the halls." He eyed her with distrust, hearing no response from her. "Understood?" He drawled slowly.
"Yes sir, Professor Sir. I'll... just be going now..." She slowly shifted to the side, slipping from within his dark shadow. "Not- so fast Virus. What is that hidden behind your back? Hand it over." Deidre sent a silent curse at him, hesitantly handing him the tattered book to his outstretched hand. She stared from behind her bangs at his reaction. He opened the book, fluttering the pages back and forth. "And what is this? The pages are blank. Not anything suspicious, I hope? Nothing your so called friends have anything to do with?"
She had to think quickly. They had sneaked the book out of the restricted section one night. If Snape found out about that, they'd surely be in detention. She was already behind in her schoolwork and she'd rather not have a night on her conscious to boot. Not to mention she'd hear it from Lilithe..
"It's.. It's my diary, professor. I just found it. I thought I'd lost it!" She laughed nervously, a slight tinge of red on her cheeks. Fortunately, this seemed to satisfy him as she stuck the book back with an amused sneer toward her, in which she gratefully accepted. As soon as it was verified she could go, she bolted as quick as she could without having it considered running.
"That git, now I'll be late meeting Lily!" She glanced down at the troublesome book. Thinking of why she was meeting L, once again a smiled graced her face and she quickened her pace slightly more. She put the book back into her satchel.
'Just in case.'
.:~^~:.
At last, she reached the great hall having sped all the way from the Hufflepuff dormitories. She caught L's gaze from across the hall at once, upon entering. She was obviously waiting for her. She made her way calmly down the length of the tables in the room. L met her halfway and they finally turned to sit at the Hufflepuff table. The oddball blonde wasn't in any of the 4 original houses, but a house of her own after blowing up the Sorting Hat. The hat was thereafter restored after the curious incident but she remained in a class of her own supervised by Snape. Deidre knew Lilithe wouldn't have it any other way. She fancied the professor, although only people with Deidre’s sense of humor and understanding for her friend would see why.
Lilithe turned her calm expression to one of excitement once they were hidden from prying eyes in an undisturbed corner. "So, did you bring it? Have any trouble?"
Deidre frowned. She reached into her bag with a sigh and pulled out the battered book of interest. "As a matter of fact," She handed the book to an awe-inspired L, "I just ran into your man; quite literally. I'm lucky I wasn't busted with a detention! And only 5 points taken... but not without a few insults and suspicion of course. Other than that, we're good. Snape thinks it's my diary. Bloody git, you'd think I'd carry a diary around flobberworms like some of these people? Pfft."
L laughed. "That's my Hufflepuff." D responded with a growl. "Don't make me take that book back to the restricted section. I will. I'll tell the librarian~."
"You would not! And you -are- a Hufflepuff. Besides, you'd give up your pretty boy?" She eyed her friend skeptically, a knowing smile on her face.
"...Curse you." Deidre responded, but with a smile. "So, what's the plan? Are we going to try this weekend? Next week's the next trial. Speaking of which... d'you think Cedric's figured out the clue?"
"He might've. Besides, wouldn't you know? You're th'Hufflepuff after all!" She laughed, "What about Potter? Think he's got it figured out?"
Deidra shrugged, "Dunno, but seeing as he's the famous Harry Potter, you'd guess he was the first. But he's not anything spectacular." Lilithe nodded at that, having caught glimpses of his skills.
"Anyway, this weekend. How about tomorrow? It'd be Saturday and all. We'll meet… how about in the room of requirement? That way no one would be able to bug us or ask questions."
"And Cassy's coming too?"
"Of course."
"Brilliant. Then we're all set!" Deidre brought her hands in a single happy clap.
"Right, so we'll meet in the morning at the Room of Requirement and I'll tell C-chan about it when we have Transfiguration today. For now," Lilithe returned the book to her friend's bag with a serious look back to Deidre. "You keep the book and bring it with you. If I take it, Snape's bound to find it with him lurking nearby." Deidre nodded her approval and got up to leave. She had Charms with Ravenclaw soon.
"And D-chan...."
D turned back to her friend, she suddenly felt nervous for unknown reasons. Perhaps she could tell what her friend was about to say. "Yeah..?"
"Don't open that book. I don't think any of us would want to go into it alone. So make sure not to peek! And that's just if it takes us at all." With a warm smile, Lilithe departed, assumingly to her own classes.
"Right..." Deidre hadn't thought of looking at the book; at least, not without her friends. But now the thought intrigued her. Like L said, would it even do anything? Would it be blank to them? Maybe all they would be able to do is read the story. If L hadn't said anything, she would have perhaps only looked excitedly at the book before hiding it under her pillow for the night. She jerked back to reality, realizing she'd be late. So for now, all thoughts of the mysterious book were pushed from her mind.
