eBay Nixes MMORPG Auctions
Posted by sjohnson - Monday, January 29, 2007 9:58 AM

Quote:
Apparently afraid of eventual legal issue that might develop, eBay has cancelled all auctions of virtual property.

The company has been pulling the auctions for the last month or so "For the overall health of the marketplace."

According to SlashDot: "Given the nebulous nature of ownership in online games, eBay has decided the prudent decision is to remove the possibility for players to sell what might be the IP of other parties via their service. Mr. Durzy made it a point to say that initial listings of virtual property would not have punitive actions. Their assumption, he said, is that most users break with policies because they're unaware of them, rather than maliciously. Initial infractions will result in a delisting of items, and an attempt to educate the user on the policy. Persistent disregard for the policies, of course, will result in a removal of the seller's account."

So if you want a level 70 paladin or whatever, you'll have to grind like everyone else.

I don't know whether this would apply to Gaia...but they did say virtual property ^O^

I read that this morning too, we were talking about it in Shem's Guild @w@ I hope it clears Gaia auctions... Though people will still sell stuff anyways, hopefully it will cut down.

I go down to an internet cafe and the people that frequent there are always getting busted for botting(mostly on lineage II).

I just never understood the need for it.

I'd like to see the gaia auctions cleared off as well. One less problem for gaia to deal with.

If I may quote a certain silly movie:

"And there was much rejoicing." *yay*

'Bout time something like this happened. No doubt people are still going to find some way around it, though.

Ah, so THAT'S why all the sales for Diablo 2 items went down. I found that a little suspicious.

Oh well, at least now I know I'll have to do a mass trade on my mule account rather than sell it off. *shrugs* I just wanted to clear space for better characters. >_>;;

*actually got the "lvl 70 paladin" comment* xD
