Banging On A Frying Pan
A random collection of whatever thoughts happen to be going through my mind at the time...
I hate Midna!
I've spent a good portion of the last two days playing Zelda: Twilight Princess, and now that I'm finally past the goat-herding and getting cats back to their rightful owners, I'm enjoying the experience immensely. It's got all the classic Zelda elements: dungeons that seem simple and straightforward but hold all sorts of hidden mysteries, nicely balanced puzzles, and (in the Forest Temple) a whole posse of crazy monkeys that help Link get to places he wouldn't otherwise be able to access. The Wiimote works great for combat, and the controls overall are intuitive and easy to master. What's not to love?

Well, I'll tell you: Midna. That little blue creature's gotten on my nerves from the first moment she appeared. I've seen nothing but praise for Midna's personality in the reviews of this game, and it makes me wonder what sort of substances those critics were consuming when they wrote their pieces. There's absolutely nothing likable about this twerp; her laugh is grating, she refuses to explain anything to Link and withholds critical information until it's almost too late (for example: at one point you have to fight three twilight creatures at once, and Midna says something like, "You can attack them all at the same time! Good luck!" and teleports away. It's not until they start reviving each other and kicking Link's furry wolf a** all over the place that she finally explains how to attack them simultaneously), and she orders Link around like he's a lowly errand boy. I'm hoping she gets less annoying as the game progresses, but right now I'm angry that the designers didn't include a "b***h-slap Midna" option in the control scheme.

On a less antagonistic note: I stopped by Plan 9 Records today, and was pleasantly surprised to learn that Fall Out Boy was not their top seller for the week so far. The #1 slot was captured by Bloc Party, and they were followed by The Used, with FOB a distant third. Of course, that's probably because all the teenage fans in the area went to Target and bought the CD for less there, and because Plan 9's clientele is composed of college kids who wouldn't be caught dead listening to a "mainstream" band and old guys who never buy anything but classical music. But it still brightened my mood.
