Riddle me this, Riddle me that...
Chapter 1
Riddle me this... Riddle me that... Said 3 times I know for a fact... Riddle me that... Riddle me this... Oh, how so much you will dearly miss...
"Somebody save us please!" "I'm scared! Where is mommy?!" the two kids shook in horror as the darkness filled the spaces around them, making it simply impossible to see. The small girl began to cry, "Mommy! Daddy! Where are you?!" the girl cracked out. The small boy held his sister close, "Shh! They'll come for us, I know!" he said reassuringly, though terrified himself. A sudden crack was heard from a distance not far from the children's hiding place. The boy looked over, although not seeing anything, he knew something was there. "Ok, I want you to stay here Callie. I'm gonna go see whats over there." The boy said bravely. The girl held on to him tighter, "No! What if it comes for me, Andy? I'm too scared, don't leave me!!" the girl cried, staining his shirt with her tears. The boy looked down at his sister's trembling body, "I'll be right back, Callie. You stay here. I promise you, no one will come for you as long as I'm here." he said, stroking his sister's hair, "Promise?" the girl asked, tears streaming down her eyes. The boy smiled softly, "I promise." he said to her. She smiled softly and let go of him, allowing him to get up, "Stay here, Callie." he said to her, she nodded and with a deep breath, he began to walk forwards. Slowly, the boy sauntered over to where the crack was heard. He felt as if his heart was about to pound its way out of his chest. Suddenly, that same crack sounded, now louder, meaning that he was getting closer to what ever was making this sound. The boy stretched his arms out, making sure he didn’t bump into any walls, and continued walking. His heart was pounding so hard he thought his sister could hear it. Still walking, he felt something beneath his hands, something solid. He felt around, ’A wall.’ He thought, suddenly, he heard that same crack…right behind him. He whipped around and to his horror, saw his friends, his own friends, lying on the ground before him, motionless. He walked over and slowly kneeled down in total shock, he reached out a hand hesitantly and touched one of his friends cheeks. With only one touch, the boy snapped his hand back, they were as cold as ice. Their eyes were all still wide open, their pupils looking lifeless. The boy shuddered, he didn’t know who would to this to him, or to anyone. He tried to think back to when these things first started to happen, the disappearances, the sudden depressions…the murders. All of it seemed to happen when he…he… ‘The game.’ he thought, his eyes widening. Suddenly another crack was heard, very close to where he was. He looked over and saw a broken lantern about a meter away from him. ‘That wasn’t like that before…’ He thought, then started to panic, ‘Callie.’ “Callie! Are you still there?!” he yelled, getting up. No answer. “CALLIE!” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Andy's eyes snapped open and he sat up quickly, sweat covering his entire body. He had the same dream, the same dream that has haunted him since that day. Memories flooded his head like moving pictures. He still couldn't get over Callie's mysterious disappearence, even if it had been 5 years from the incident. He sighed to myself and lied back down and thought,
'Its my fault...I just left her there...if I had stayed there with her, she wouldn't...I could've...'
He felt himself choke a bit, holding back tears as he turned around on his side,
'If only I was there to protect her...'
The next morning, he woke up and groggily got out of his bed. He walking into his bathroom and took a warm shower, hoping that it would wash away those painful memories. Walking out of the shower with a towel wrapped around his waist, he looked at himself in the bathroom mirror and began speaking to himself.
"You need to forget...you have to forget..." "No! I can't forget...I just can't, I-" "Yes, you can! Just don't think about her, don't think-" "NO!"
The next thing Andy knew, his fist had been driven into the mirror, a loud crack echoeing through the room. Andy just stared at his fist, crimso red blood now flowing freely down the mirror and his fist. "Andy!" heard at the door, Andy turned around, his fist still plunged into the mirror and saw his mother standing there, a worried look upon her face. She ran over to him and took his hand off the mirror, Andy didn't even wince, for some reason it didn't seem to hurt him.
"Andy, why would you do this?" his mother asked, putting his hand underneath the water. Andy didn't answer, "Is this still about Callie?" his mother asked, looking at him. Andy still stayed silent and looked away, giving his mother his answer. His mother hugged him, "Oh, honey..." she said, closing her eyes.
~~~
"Have a good day, honey! Be careful with your hand!" Andy's mother called, waving at him as he walked out the door and out to the bus. He didn't say anything back as he climbed into the bus. Whispers filled the bus as he walked around, when Callie had gone missing, people always pittied him and said sympathetic words to him. But, he didn't want pity, he didn't want those kind, sweet words of compassion, it just put more weight on his heart. He sat down in an empty seat and leaned his head on the window by him and closed his eyes. "Hey Andy!" a squeaky voice said and sat down next to him. He knew since the seat bubbled up a bit. Andy groaned a bit and hesitantly opened his eyes to meet his new visitor.
"Ugh...what do you want, Bailey?" He asked, annoyed and bored.
"Oh, nothing!" She said, giggling her head off, "So, about your sister, I'm really-"
"Don't even say it." Andy said, glaring at her.
She blinked, "Uh, ok!" she answered, "I got you this." she said, taking out something and putting it on his lap. "Thanks." Andy said, not even bothering to look at what she gave him. "Look at it!" she said, shoving it in his face. He grabbed whatever it was and pulled it away from his face to look at it.
"Don't be so Sad! You'll get over it!"
It said on it, under it was a picture of him and his friends, including Bailey, who was his friend at the time, and his sister. Andy narrowed his eyes and glared at it. "You like it?" she asked. He put his head back on the window,
"...Whatever..."
~~~
"Ok, class, hope you have a nice day!" the teacher called, Andy not saying anything back and just walking out the classroom. "Andy! Andy, wait!" he heard Baily call behind him. Andy rolled his eyes and turned around, "I want you to meet my friends, come on!" Bailey said, grabbing his arm and dragging him somewhere.
'Like I had a choice...' he thought. He was then brought to 4 people, 2 girls and 2 boys. "Guys! This is my friend Andy, Andy this is Bethany, Katey, Dwight and Jared." she introduced.
"Hi." "Hello!" "'Sup?" "Yo."
They all said in order of their names. "Hn...whatever, can I go now?" Andy asked, annoyed. "Ugh! Fine! What happened to you, Andy! You used to be nicer!" Bailey yelled at him. "You know full well what happened to me, Bailey!" he yelled back, "Why can't you just get over it and think about others?!" Bailey hollered. "BECAUSE EVER SINCE THAT DAY ITS HAUNTED ME!!" Andy yelled, "I could never forget Callie, I can never get over it. You can't understand, Bailey. I don't know why I bother listening to you..." Bailey's eyes watered visibly, "I CAN IMAGINE HOW IT FEELS, BUT YOU CAN AT LEAST BE NICER!" she yelled. "NO YOU CAN'T, BAILEY! YOU COULD NEVER UNDERSTAND! PISS OUT OF MY ******** LIFE!" Andy screamed and stomped off, leaving Bailey in tears and her friends in shock.
[******** bastards...they could never understand...' he thought.
