On February 12, 2007, four activists lock themselves together inside the Kimberly-Clark Canadian Headquarters in Toronto and announced that they would not leave until vice president of the environment, Ken Strassner, agreed to meet with Greenpeace. Kimberly-Clark is the company that owns Kleenex, Pull-ups, Cottonelle, Scott, Huggies and some other brands, and they’re destroying our Boreal forest to do it! As the activists were ‘locking down,’ other activists broadcast chainsaw noises and dumped woodchips in the hallways to highlight the company’s ongoing destruction of Canada’s Boreal forest and further disrupt operations in the office. With them, they had signs that read “Kleenex destroys ancient forests, and wore shirts that said “Save the Boreal forest” on the back. The four activists were later arrested, charged with mischief, and released.
Despite growing pressure from their customers and investors in the form of contract cancellations and shareholder resolutions, blockades in Canada, the US and Europe, and letters and calls from tens of thousands of people, Kimberly-Clark has refused to stop making Kleenex out of clearcut ancient forests.
