DVD Review Double Feature
Kung Fu Hustle- 9.5/10

Any movie with a production number featuring an ensemble of axe-wielding gangsters has to be good; and Kung Fu Hustle somehow only gets crazier and more hilarious after that early highlight. The narrative-- following the aforementioned Axe Gang, their conflicts with the inhabitants of a wretched slum appropriately called "Pig Sty" that turns out to house several entirely unexpected kung fu masters, and a bumbling small-time extortionist named Sing (writer/director/star Stephen Chow) who wants to join the gang but can't seem to get anything right-- is intentionally absurd, and deftly combines laugh-out-loud humor with staggering fight sequences. The fight midway through the film, pitting a duo of musically inclined assassins against the slum's resident masters, is phenomenal, and the lengthy series of fights at the end isn't far off either. It also has the funniest high-speed chase in recent memory... one that takes place entirely on foot.

Dynamic.01- The Best Of DavidLynch.com- 4/10

If this is the best, I sure as hell wouldn't want to see the worst. I'm a huge fan of Lynch's films, but this DVD is a strong argument against recycling Internet-specific content in other media. It doesn't even contain the best-known material from the site-- "Dumbland" has a DVD of its own, while "Rabbits" is presumably missing because Lynch scavenged much of it for Inland Empire-- and what's on display is far from his best work. How bad is it? The high point is a 30-minute film about Lynch making a lamp. neutral For low points, the ten-minute "Industrial Soundscape" (boring music, worse animation) and an interview clip where Lynch praises Marilyn Manson's music are the absolute bottom of the barrel. For obsessive completists only, and even they'll probably be disappointed.
