I'm currently interested in how the STD "syphilis" can be possibly modified into making the disease(I don't believe its a virus, its a bacteria I think) into a realistic zombie producing epidemic thret, like an outbreak on human society.
I got this Idea because the normal syphilis passably contributed to Hitler's crazy decisions, just read up a little on the neurological symptoms (Dementia Psychosis Irresponsible Behavior). I think that if this is contained and experimented on and altered, syphilis can have the potential to infect through fluid transfer, and mabe it can infect very rapidly unlike today's where you can have it for a long time and not know it was syphilis and you were diagnosed with something more common. As far as I know 8% or the victims get the mental problems, they include memory loss, irrational behavior and crazy things. If you get memory loss you'll forget about who you are or were and you could have reasoning and other things in your brain that could be corrupted turning you into something that has a "Need" that the virus left alone or induced. Attacking another person would spread the bacteria letting it do it's thing, and because it was contained and altered, it would possibly divide it's cells at an alarming rate making the host change quickly hence the epidemic old fashion zombie spread of doom! This "Death Bacteria" probably would have an accident like in the movies where it would be released all at once without warning through the science labs and then into cities and civilization. It would take hundreds of years to let nature to develop this bacteria into this kind of state on it's own but labs would create an unreasonably potent and microscopic beast. Oh- the main symptom of Syphilis are basically soars in your private areas and sometimes it can get really bad, also you can see it on your palms or the bottom of your feet. But what if this rapid growth caused it many other places like your face and mouth? You'd look like a zombie! A really messed up and ugly looking host. Syphilis to me is way logical for any sort of zombie outbreak in reality ^_^
Yeah- after I posted that comment on your journal Kyo Sohma, I realized how much I wrote so I'm sharing it with everyone! Yay for Copy/Paste!
Heres more:
There is ALOT more to this. Its bsically concepts- imagine 28 days later(a movie) How the virus infected the hosts with "Rage" I'm not an expert, but I know diffrent places in your brain do diffrent things.
If a strategical strike from Syphilis deteriorated or damaged a part of your brain, you would have no choice but to change. Some parts will make you die, some ruin's your reasoning, others controll pain or emotions. This isn't magic, the infection won't "take controll" of it's host- it just does what microscopic things do best- it does what it takes to multiple. How would a bacteria infection know where to damage the brain? I don't know- how do plants know that it's bees and small woodland animals that help pollinate? Its nature- but with human intervention.
It does have nature to tell it to do seemingly random but effective things to infect another form of life, Usually it hangs around down in your privates to be transfered as an STD. Apparently Syphilis is passed easily through the soars it causes on the hands, feet and sexual organs. So... A zombie has to bite you right? ... Ok imagine soars in the host's mouth that are easily accessible through biting? The infection rate -ive heard- is already fast with this bacterial disease, what would contained breeding with rats or monkeys do? The more hosts a bacteria or virus goes through, the more it changes to adapt. repeated "breeding" could make it a more potent adversary, or possibly weaken it. I'm sure there are ways of simulating hosts- but whoever is developing this is probably not very high on the good moral scale. Who knows, maybe this problem would be caused by good intending scientists who are trying to find a cure for Syphilis but before they could make an immunity, the specimens were released on accident and went from there.
