Nox Noctis - part 1

“Orator do you read me?”

“This is Orator what do you need Knight?”

“I need info on the guards surrounding the building.”

“Give me 3 minutes for an assessment, Orator out.”

The man lowered his finger from the communicator in his ear, starring at a building walled in razor wire, vampires with weapons, turrets and spotlights on all corners of the square-roofed building. Busting into a place like this would be called suicide. But when do these three listen to things like that?

“Ok, 19 guards up-front, 18 at the back-door and about 44 inside the building. This is place seems to be well defended.” Orator said pointing out the obvious.

“We have two choices, stealth, or busting into the place busting all skulls and witnesses.” Knight was currently leading the operation at hand.

“I definitely know which choice Tank would go for,” Orator replied with a roll of his eyes.

“Obviously, but I recommend stealth,” Knight said back with a sigh hidden in his voice. “The turrets look like they’ll rip us a new one.”

“Ok, we go through a) the back, or b) the front?”

“Let’s go with c) the roof,” Knight answered with a smirk marking from one side of his face to the other. “Remember the roof has a skylight, we can sneak in through there and skip all the guards outside.”

“Right see you at the top!”

“Knight out.”

Knight then jumped out the top branches of a high tree and flipped over the wall of razor wire and tip-toed past guards looking the other way. With his back to the wall of the building, he mumbled a jumble of words and then emitted a small, hardly noticeable, grey light from his body, then started running up the building wall.

“You see last night’s episode of ‘The Fanged and the Furious’?” a guard was asking the other at the top of the building. They seemed to pay no attention to Knight who was sneaking up behind them.

“No, but I hear the released the biggest twist in the series yet, so I don’t want to hear it till I see it!” the other guard replied, with enthusiasm, excitement and wonder in his voice. Suddenly the two guards started to choke on their own blood and gurgling their last breathes. The first guard collapsed and saw that a large knife pierced his friend’s vital-organ from behind and he guessed he suffered the same fate; he then closed his eyes and let himself rest.

Before the other guard perished, he heard a whisper in his ear. “The ‘twist’ was that Theresa’s boyfriend was really her brother.” Knight decided to spoil the ending for the guard before his death.
“You bas-“He then coughed up blood that painted the ground and feel forward as a lifeless shell. It was at this moment that Orator made his debut. He was dressed in a tattered cape with a hood, shrouding his face and most of his upper-body in darkness, giving the impression as a man of mystery.

“You took your sweet time.”

“Grappling hook jammed a little bit and un-jamming it is a little difficult when your more than 19-ft. in the air,” while saying this, a large gun appeared out of thin air and into his hands. Knight and Orator have special powers enabling them to realize their weapons out of darkness and thin-air and into the hands. “You use that anti-gravitational walk spell to walk up the walls?”

“Make that ran up,” Knight replied as he looked down at the two victims. “No rest for the wicked.”

“Love that song.”

With that Knight pulled out a one-handed sword, of which will be described later on, and cut clean an entrance through the skylight without a sound. Knight emitted another grey flash, gripped onto the edge of the hole and swept his feet to the ceiling and started to walk on it.

“Let me check for guards before you come down.” Knight said as he silently walked on the shadowy ceiling, onto the walls, and finally to the floor. His eyes darted from side to side, seeing if anyone was to cause him or his friend trouble. After a thorough look around the area he gave a signal of clearance and slowly Orator dropped to the floor using the grappling hook, only to have it jam half way to the ground.

“Come on, damn it,” Orator was silently furious at the machine that has jammed twice in less than 10 minutes. “I knew I should’ve checked the damn thing before we did this.”

After a short while of fiddling around with the controls, the cord snapped and Orator started to plummet to the hard floor, only to be caught by Knight.

“Thanks.”

“You really are all looks and no brains, you idiot,” Knight rolled his eyes and dropped Orator hard to the ground.

“You’re kind of cold, dude.” He rubbed his rear, for which he landed hard on, then stood up and the two made their way to a large steel-safe of a door. The safe, looked absolutely unbreakable to even a battering ram and a pile driver placed horizontally.

“Come in Tank,” Knight said putting his finger to his ear and switching the transmission frequency. All he could hear was a loud snoring noise. “Come in Tank,” Knight repeated, waiting a few seconds for an answer. “Damn it. He went to sleep on us,” Knight swore quietly.

“I counted for something like that to happen, so I placed a remote shocking-device in his chair when no one was looking,” Orator said with a smirk on his face.

“Really?”

“No, it was mostly for laughs,” Orator chuckled silently and pressed a button and Knight flipped back to the frequency Tank was on, and he got something back.

“YYYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!” what happened to the other end sounded painfully bad and it wasn’t good for Knight either hearing this sharp and loud noise right in his ear. “What happened?!” Tank was definitely awake.

“You fell asleep on us so Orator took action and shocked you.”

“That son of a-.”

“Never mind that now,” Knight said in a very serious tone. “We’re at the safe and it can’t be breached. We need you to hack this thing since it has a digital lock.”

“Alright, give me a minute.” After a lot of tap-tap-tapping on the keyboard the digital lock next to orator showed a green light and the two proceeded.

What was inside? Will be in the next part to come.
