Her bright auburn hair shone in the brilliant summer sun. The long locks flowing behind her like the river down by her village. It had been a pretty cool morning but now the sun was high in the sky, making the heat almost unbearable. To her, it made no difference the temperature, having grown used to the climate since birth. Looking around, she listened to the sounds around her, making sure that no one was near. Walking towards the edge of the water, she looked around once more before she untied her silk linen dress and allowed it to fall to the ground. On her leg she wore a garter with small pouches designed for knives. In each of them was a different type of knife, all used for protection. Stepping into the water, she smiled at the cool feel of it against her hot skin. Kerala had long drowned out the sound of the roaring waterfall, needing to be able to hear every little sound around her in order to be safe. This had taken years of practice but she'd finally mastered it a year ago before her coming of age ceremony.
On her head sat a golden circlet with an emerald in the middle. This represented her status and her rank. Emeralds and rubies signified leadership in her tribe, and her father was the leader. The circlet meant that she was unwed and it also meant that she was of age. When she was younger, she'd always wore flowers in her hair which had signified her youthfulness. Now that she was sixteen, many suitors would come and try to woo her, which she didn't take too kindly too. She figured why waste her time with men when she could be doing something useful and knowledgeable?
Kerala dove into the water and swam under until she reached the bottom. Once there, she looked around, seeing if she could find anything. This was a favorite past time of hers, searching for hidden "treasures" as she liked to call them. Just last week she'd found a golden anklet and kept it, in fact, she was in the process of polishing it up so she could wear it. Needing air, she looked around for another split second before she pushed off the bottom and rocketed up towards the surface. Taking a small breath of air, she swam a little ways away from her current spot and then swam back down to the bottom...
