Originally, creepy clowns were supposed t obe doubly so because they combined something that was supposed to be nice and happy with extreme creepitude, but...
Go on deviantART. Search for "Clown." count how many pages it takes you until you find a regular clown.
I fear the irony of the horror clown may be lost on our children.
