Moisheri & Yachisheri

The words "Moisheri" and "Yachisheri" have no English equivalent, though their meanings are best described with an adequate understanding of Varu culture. "moi" is the Verumian word for "light", referring to physical light whether it be from the sun, a fire, or an electrical source. The word "yachi" translates to "dark/darkness", which in Verumian culture is not considered to be the absence of light, but to be it's own separate entity. "Sheri" is Verumian word that is used to describe something as having similar qualities to/of something else. Therefore, a rough translation of "moisheri" and "yachisheri" would be "light-like" and "dark-like", respectively.

For something to be in a state of moisheri would be for it to have qualities that one would consider pleasant, hedonistic, happy, or even saccharine. Yachisheri things would be thing that have qualities to be considered unpleasant, aescetic, depressing, and yet disciplinary.

One example that adequately displays the duality of moisheri and yachisheri would be "Purakotom War", or commonly translated to as the "Cheesecake War".
Under the decision of the Verumian Council at the time, Purakotom, which is a dish mostly resembling cheesecake, was removed from the menu among the Black Army due to the high cost of production, especially for such a rapidly growing military. Following passionate protests by Black Army recruits and Generals alike, a violent coup began to take place which prompted the council to seek the assistance of the White Guard, resulting in civil war. The Verumian White Guard, made up of civilians, failed to understand the Black Army's love for purakotom, seeing the dessert as a luxury and not a necessity. The Black Army, however, claimed that they could not operate efficiently without the moisheri that came from consuming purakotom. After roughly two years of conflict, the council managed to successfully persuade the rioting Black Army that their dependency on such a moisheri thing such as purakotom has made them disharmonic and that they needed to find a more harmonious balance with moisheri and yachisheri, suggesting that they settle for something less moisheri and allow purakotom to become a luxury, one that they would value more due to its exclusivity. The tool that arguably made the persuasion so successful was the introduction of a new pastry into the Black Army menu, a dessert that came to be known as the "Soldier's Danish".

Verumians believe that the highest state of anything is for it to be "Varu", or "harmonious", and to the Verumians the way to achieve harmony is to find balance between moisheri and yachisheri. However, what is considered "balance" does not necessarily refer to it as being an equal distribution of moisheri and yachisheri, but more of a "whatever is best" sort of balance. Most political and philosophical debates within Verum come down to a matter of arguing what is the most preferable level of moisheri and yachisheri in a given subject of debate. In some cases, the appropriate level of yachisheri or moisheri is sometimes none at all, and in some cases can be absolutely equal. Political and social egalitarianism is spurred by a view that absolutely equal moisheri and yachisheri is most harmonious. A case where one might find total yachisheri to be most harmonious is in the case of the death of a loved one. To not be sad, angry, upset, of frustrated at the death of a loved one would be considered disharmonious, due to the cultural fear that those who cannot feel emotions appropriately have sociopathic qualities and are likely to be unable to cooperate efficiently within Verumian society.

Ironically, many other cultures view Verumian culture as being a very sociopathic one by their own standards, perceiving Verumian people as being stoic and emotionless. Verumian people, however, tend to respond to this claim by stating that they have a better understanding of emotions and have better control of their emotions than other cultures do, and therefore other cultures cannot understand Verumians on an emotional level.
