Today I'd like to discuss a topic so frequently tossing it's mitts around the GCD and Chatterbox as well as now the Site Feedback.
"Born Again Gaian"
I laugh harshly at the concept of "Born Again Gaian". Us, and by us I mean what you all so fondly call the pioneers of the reality of Gaia Online were merely using the process of gold making given to them. I can assure you that most of you cash free purists are not even aware of what actually went down in 2003.
Moreover I'm certain you're not understanding how inhumanely foolish you all look.
Congrats, you made Gaia something it was meant to avoid. A touchy subject faltered by the slightest change. What's that? Religion. That's what this has become. Honestly the tension here is similar to the war of Gay Rights vs Catholicism. Did I make that comparison? I did. Because that's how stupid it sounds.
It's the same concept as you entering Subway. Say you buy a sandwich. It's a delightful turkey breast with a sweet onion sauce on italian herb and cheese with all the trimmings, but, the person behind you orders a buffalo chicken, toasted with vinegar, hot sauce, and some black pepper. Doesen't it make you angry? Knowing they have different views than you? Different choice in sandwich?
If it does, you need a reality check.
People, all of you need to wake up. Gaia Online is about creativity. A place where our Avatars; cosplay or personal, showcase who we are behind the screen and keyboard. We make friends. We go in towns. We talk. Some of those friendships last years and others end out of petty spite, but, do you honestly think that for one second Gaia's going to care if you wear nothing but gold shop items? Of course not! It's your avatar, not theirs. How you choose to dress them, what you decide to put them in; Cash items, gold shop items, stuff bought through Flynn's Booty or Flynn's chest? Why the hell does it matter? Are your feathers seriously that ruffled because you see other people buy things you don't?
Wake up assholes, that's life.
This is what it is. You buy the things you want in life, and, I can promise, those options and choices are different than what someone else will buy.
You may be unable to comprehend, but, what's "free" to us, isn not "free" to them.
You want free? FYI; The core of Gaia is still free. The site is still free to join and it's not impossible to earn gold. Use your heads.
Gaia has to pay workers, benefits, insurance for families of the workers, office expenses, license rights, bandwidth, domain space, developers, artists, secretaries, and, you think a few thousand in cash items lines their pockets?
Wrong.
"Oh but what about the use of ads, that pays for it?"
Tell me something. You have adblock on right now, don't you?
You don't think that hurts them? You think that those ads still get paid for? I don't think so. Advertisers have a quota.
You want to sit here and bash the people who support the site, keep it alive. God forbid someone wear a cash item. God forbid someone buy Flynn's Booty and Flynn's chest so they can buy an item they've always wanted. It's not okay? Why? Because you think that's not how someone should earn their gold?
Hate to tell you. That's how vending works. You make fast gold. That's the end of it.
In the end, this feud of utter stupidity has brought out the worst in this sites once wonderful community as well as a few of my very close friends.
In reality. Whining about your finances here isn't going to help you. Because in the real world. If the economy is terrible; use your head or sink like a brick.
Get over yourselves. This is the reality. This is life.
