Status: COMPLETE! Prologue Zell always feared new experiences. When he first started driving legally a year ago when he was 16, he was so afraid that he would crash into something, that he hit a tree out of nerves. When he got his first girlfriend at age fourteen he was afraid of saying something stupid to make her break up with him. What did he do? Nothing. She however…dumped him. Funny how fear works and how every living thing has their own individual reaction to it. Animals run or fight when afraid. Humans can run, fight, or find ways of relief. But Zell…at the age of seventeen, he would find that he had one unique way of dealing with fear. And that is what this Tale of the Red Knight is about.
Chapter 1: The Boy Who Cleans the Kitchen and the Boy Who Naps in History Class
^^^^^^^^Modern Day American Life ^^^^^^^^
“Dude…you’re doing it again…” Irvine Kinneas nudged the daydreaming Zell back to the land of the living. Zell shook off his disoriented state and tried to focus back to his Spanish notes. “Sorry, I’ve just been really tired lately…” Zell explained with yawn. “Insomnia?” asked the auburn haired best friend.
“Something like that…”
“If we don’t pass this Spanish final we’re going to flunk the class. I don’t know about you, but I do not- Repeat: DO NOT-want to spend my vacation time in summer school,” Irvine proclaimed.
“Irv, calm down. That final is in a week. You’re such a drama queen.”
“Shouldn’t the term be king?”
“I’ve never heard of a drama king…”
“…”
“…”
“…”
“Just cut the s**t, okay?” The two boys bickered for a little longer at their table in the school library before finally getting back to work. Irvine was indeed a dramatic friend to have on Zell’s part. Zell was a very laid back and realistic person to have as a friend on Irvine’s part. Two complete opposites if you thought about it. But never before would anyone see a pair who was best suited for each other.
Dude, this language is weird…” Irvine complained spontaneously. “How come ‘y’ means ‘and’, yet when you say it, it sounds like ‘e’. Why can’t it just be a regular ‘why’ or they just learn English??” Zell ignored him and finished up his last chapter. He sighed in defeat and began collecting his things.
“Come on. It’s time for 9th period. I’m going to stay awake today,” Zell declared.
“Good luck,” Irvine chuckled. Zell rarely ever stayed awake during a history class.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Zell took his seat in his usual desk and prepared to take notes. He couldn’t stand this class because it was so boring. What happened in the past was finished and no one cared about it, right? Apparently Zell was wrong, because his high school required three history credits in order to graduate.
“Everyone get out a sheet of paper. We’re going to review for the midterm.” Your typical classroom moaned and mourned at the sound of review, which meant test, and only gave the teacher the satisfaction. They were only 10 minutes into class when Zell’s eyes started getting heavy. He didn’t even notice what he was writing down on his own paper. He just copied from the board and half listened to Mr. Spark’s droning flamboyant voice. “….these noble men would protect the people of their court…” Drowsier. “Sir Gawaine had a brother….” ‘boring’ “Came from a distant land and was forced to work in the kitchen…” ‘I guess I’ll go to sleep then…’ “Armor as red as blood…” ‘And blood as cold as ice…ZzZZzZzz.’
^^^^^^^^Arthurian Empire in Arthurian Age^^^^^^^ I feel strange. Everything around me feels so unfamiliar, yet I get a sense of Nostalgia from a single caress of the blade of grass I lay upon. It feels good to slack off like this. Will I get in trouble?
“Kitchen Page!!” Rezellence shot up immediately and almost hit a branch from the tree he was stealing shade form. His supervisor, Sir Cay, stood in front of him with a look of displeasure. “What are you doing taking a break, you heathen? The Feast of Pentecost has not yet been dismissed.”
Zell turned red and apologized humbly. Forgive me Sir Cay! I’ll not break from my duties so long as I still owe money. I was just resting my aching ankles. I will now return.” Zell scurried off back to work embarrassed and ashamed to have been caught slacking. As he made his way back into the kitchen he got glares from other slaves. A kitchen worker was not supposed to take a break unless given it by their supervisor every two hours. But Sir Cay was so harsh on Zell he didn’t give him a break until every four hours. Sir Cay was most unpleasant to Zell only for the fact that King Arthur favored Zell as the best kitchen worker and the other knights treated young Zell as a brother when he was off duty. Sir Cay had even heard Sir Gawaine tell Zell that once his debt was paid off, he would train him to become an authentic knight. This made Sir Cay even more envious of Zell’s luck. Zell was oblivious to just how far Sir Cay’s hatred went. Even thought he showed the full extent of it upon Zell’s backside more times than one. And he has the scars to prove it. But he was passive anyway. Zell’s father was a noble lord who had borrowed too much money from the bank for family reasons. He passed away when Rezellence was 9. Ever since then Zell had been working in the kitchen to pay off his late father’s debt. Now at the age of 17, only three more months were left until he was finished. Zell wished he could wear armor of the finest mythril, and wield a blade of the finest steel. He fantasized of long crusades with faceless companions as he scrubbed the floors. One of Zell’s favorite “brothers” was Gawaine, a legendary knight of green power, Second only to Lancelot. Gawaine had taught Zell some technique every so often. And in the amount of time that they trained, Rezellence had shown great potential. Zell went from a novice, to a low class fighter in just a matter of weeks. Zell admired Gawaine’s power in such a way that he was even more determined to become a knight. He was so busy thinking about that man he was surprised when he got splashed with a gallon of cold water. “You missed a spot, kitchen pig,” Sir Cay sneered. Then he walked away without a word, leaving the drenched Zell behind.
^^^^^^^^Modern Day American Life ^^^^^^^^
The final bell rang snatching Zell from his awkward dream. He wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth and collected his things. He was almost at the door when Mr. Sparks’ called for him to stay behind. ‘Crap he saw me sleeping!’ Zell cursed himself. He clucked over to his teacher’s desk and waited for his lecture that he knew was coming.
“Zell I’m going to be frank with you. You’re failing the class. How do you expect to pass if you take a nap during my lessons everyday?” Zell decided to be frank as well.
“Well, sir…old English really isn’t very interesting to me…’ Zell explained. “I see,” the teacher responded. ‘Well if you take time to comprehend the material, you might find you actually like it. You’re going to have difficulties in college if you can’t do your best because you think the lesson is boring.” Mr. Sparks spat the last word out as if it were a virus.
Zell is thinking, ‘Who said I was going to college anyway?’
“Here, I want you to take this home with you tonight.” Mr. Sparks reached in his desk drawer and pulled out a thick book entitled ‘Lamorte D’ Arthur’. “Read 100 pages of this every night until finals. It explains everything I’ve been teaching in a nutshell.”
‘kind of like spark notes?’ Zell joked in his head.
“I’m doing this for you and only you because I think you have what it takes to succeed. You just need a little push in order to get your diploma.” Zell’s eyes grew wide at the sight of the book. When he grabbed the book, he almost fell to the floor because it weighed a ton. He felt like a boat and the book was an anchor.
"Umm thank you, sir! I’ll try my hardest” ‘I’ll use it as a door wedge,’ he thought deviously. He left the classroom and found Irvine waiting for him outside. “Manage to stay awake?”
“Nope.”
“Didn’t think so.”
Chapter 2: The Boy Who Went to the Movies and the Boy Who Went to War.
Zell and Irvine came into Zell’s house and discarded their sneakers in the shoe closet. They got out their books and immediately began studying Spanish.
They had been reading in silence for about five minutes when Irvine’s appetite announced itself. “Dude, you know where all the food is…”
“I do?”
“…Where do you keep food at in your house?” Zell asked as if he were talking to a mildly retarded child. The last horse finally crossed the finish line. “Oh yeah.” Irvine took off towards Zell’s kitchen. Zell took a moment to ponder how he had ever found such a dense person to be his best friend.
Where was his mom at? Zell hoped she wouldn’t be annoyed that Irvine came over. After all it was for school. He continued skimming through his notes while Irvine prepared a sandwich downstairs. The book that Mr. Sparks had given him caught the corner of his eye. It lay half-struck out of his book bag on the floor of his room.
Curiosity got the better of him and he picked it up and flipped through the pages. ‘Never in my life have I seen a five hundred and seven chapter book,’ he marveled. He read the first sentence of the book: ‘How Uther Pendragon sent for the Duke of Cornwall and Igraine his wife, and of their departing suddenly again.’ Zell blinked. Was that even a proper sentence?? The only way to find out who these people were was to keep reading…he’d do it later…eventually...
Irvine came upstairs with a sandwich, chips, and juice. “Did you bring me anything?” Zell asked.
Irvine stared. “Wanna bite of my sandwiches?” he said between guilty mouthfuls.
“Forget it,” Zell replied annoyed and muttered something about useless freeloaders.
“By the way, your mom left you this note on the kitchen table. We were in such a rush to study we didn’t even notice it.”
Zell snatched the paper from Irvine and read to himself.
‘Zell, Jeff and I will be in Vegas for the next few weeks. I’ve left money for you so you can get things you need. Don’t spend all of it on DDR. Irvine is more than welcome over and if you need us, call Jeff’s cell.
P.S. Do not be surprised if me and Jeff come back married. You’re finally getting what you need: A FATHER! Love, Mom.'
Zell stirred with anger running through his veins. So she was marrying the guy. Irvine stayed silent, now holding a plate of empty food in his hand. Zell had always resented Jeff for trying to be the main man in his and his mother’s life. Ever since that day when Iria (Zell’s mother) got into a stupid shopping cart collision with Jeff, things had changed dramatically.
“Well at least your mom is having fun…” Irvine suggested.
“Yeah…she seems to be doing a lot of that lately…”
“You’re happy for her aren’t you?” ‘No’
“Of course I am…it’s just…”
“…” It was just Zell wanted to be the main man in his mother’s life like he had been for seventeen years. Before that stupid collision at Big Bear Grocery. Now everything was changing right in front of him. And there were more changes to come for young Rezellence. Or is his name Zell? “I don’t want to talk about it…”
“Alrighty then. I understand. It’s getting late. I’m gonna head on home.”
“Do you need me to walk you?”
“Ummm…I only live down the street. You know that.”
“Yeah well maybe I don’t want to spend all this time by myself after what I just found out.”
Irvine felt bad for his shorter friend. He knew exactly how he felt because Irvine’s parents were split up as well. “Come on then, let’s go. We’ll walk really slowly.”
The two best friends walked to Irvine’s house.
^^^^^^^^Arthurian Empire in Arthurian Age^^^^^^^
King Arthur laughed and was merry with Sir Gawaine his best and right hand man. The feast of Pentecost was halfway finished and knights and lords were chatting and playing drinking games with each other. They never expected a fair damsel to come bursting through the Great Hall screaming in frenzy.
“My lordship! My sister has been taken against her will into the Tower of Bloody Launds! Will no knight hear my cry?” The entire room grew silent with eerie shock and embarrassment. This wretch would so rudely barge in on their celebration of the defeat of the four empires.
King Arthur had a different attitude than the other 150 knights of the round. Because he was a good king, and no problem in his court would go neither unheard nor unsolved. King Arthur raised his brow. “Calm yourself Milady. Tell me every thing from the beginning starting with your name.”
She regained some of her composure and did as she was told. Her name was Lynette and she told how her sister, Lyonesse was kidnapped by a group of rouge knights. One was green, one was blue, another was black and the last was red. The red and final knight was said to have the power of seven men and have a second title: “The Bloody Knight.”
“What treachery!!’ shouted several knights. An uproar was stirred. Men left and right volunteered themselves and their lives to save the damsel’s sister. Underneath the commotion Zell had made his way in to serve a plate.
She continued, “Sirs, you do not understand. The gang of knights is all brothers; you cannot face one without facing the other. The knight of red took her to the tower of Bloody Launds, and she awaits my prompt return before the week is over. Otherwise certain death is her only savior.” Some blades went down.
“If you cannot defeat them,” she continued. “They will quarter you in every direction and torture you until your remaining anatomy is insane.” More blades were lowered. This was getting interesting. Only 20 swords out of the entire 150 of the round table were raised now.
“Whoever can save my sister will be given a large sum of gold. Courtesy of the Libyan empire. Rezellence’s ears perked up. None of these knights were brave enough for one simple task? Except for Sirs Gawaine, Lancelot, and Ector of course. Best three in the kingdom. If Zell took this task, his debt would surely be paid off. In fact, the Arthurian court would star owing him money. But would the king approve of a kitchen worker going on a large journey to slay some of the most dangerous men in all the land? Would anyone approve? There was only one way to find out.
Zell took his wooden spoon and raised it in the air for everyone to see. A low murmur and many chuckles spread throughout the room at this adorable sight. Rezellence’s face grew red but his demeanor never faltered.
“Rezellence are you feeling alright?” Gawaine asked.
“Never felt this good in my life, Sir Gawaine,” Zell answered confidently.
“You’re saying you’d gladly risk your life for a woman you hardly know in the terms of knighthood?” King Arthur asked.
“Yes, your majesty.” King Arthur looked the blond blue-eyed kitchen servant up and down in his brown rags. With a smile he proudly said.
“You are more a knight than most in this room, Rezellence. Will you accept this mission?”
“Yes, my king. If most don’t accept. I will gladly lend my hand in battle. I am naught but a kitchen worker, this is good for you. I am expendable.”
Gawaine frowned at Zell’s statement. Zell didn’t know how much he was actually valued to some people; how much Gawaine valued Zell. When everyone realized how serious Zell was, the whole room went from a state of shock to an even louder explosion of laughter. This sent Sir Gawaine off like a bomb. He slammed his fists on the oaken table in anger sending vibrations through plates and chalices. “Silence you filthy scoundrels! You dare laugh at one with a heart greater than yours? Despite his size and position, he is the only one volunteering to go and you still make a mockery of him? You're all an embarassment to this kingdom," he finished looking ashamed to be invoilved with the new table. All hung their heads in shame.
Zell felt warmth from Gawaine's outburst. The king spoke up, "Permission granted." Zell's eyes grew wide.
"Your majesty this is anoutrage!" Sir Cay shouted. "The boy is naught but seventeen!. He has no training. Send him out into the wild today and he will be slaughtered by tonight!."
The king looked puzzled. "Waht is your name, young sir?"
Sir Cay was insulted that the king did not know who he was ans a wave of jealousy flashed in his eyes. "My name is Cay, your majesty."
"Sir Cay, why not you and Sir Gawaine acompany Zell on his first mission as an offical apprentice knight. You will still supervise Zell under the supervision of Sir Gawaine."
"I accept," Gawaine exclaimed proudly and gave a wink in Zell's general direction. Sir Cay stood shock-still. How insulting...
^^^^^^^^Modern Day American Life ^^^^^^^^
Zell woke up to an epty house that morning. He had momentarily forgotten that his mother left him for her low-life fiancee'. Well it wasn't that dramatic, but Zell had to be sour avbout something. "Story of my life..." he muttered to no one in particular.
It's Saturday. Usually Zell hung out with Irvine on Saturdays. He's be getting a phone call any moment now.
The phone rang.
"Holdin' up alright by yourself, kiddo?" Was the first thing he said.
"It's pretty quiet so far. Wanna catch a movie and some food?"
"Sure. I'll pick you up in fifteen minutes."
Zell rubbed the sleep from his eyes. "Be here in a half hour. I have to shower."
"Kay, see you."
"Outy."
And just like that, plans were made and hair was geled. After the movie Zell and Irvine headed over to a restaurant called the Cheescake Factory.
"Man that was so cool!" Zell exclaimed as the waited for their food.
"...And the way sandman just turned into mud like that!" Irvine added.
They were both exhilarated from watching Spiderman 3. The waitress came to them holding their plates unsteadlily. She almost knocked over a glass of water and some salt. She blushed and walked away turning a slight shade of pink.
"What a loser..." Irvine joked, waiting for Zell to join in on the laughter. But when he didn't Irvine asked, "What's wrong?"
"I dunno I just...some how know how she must feel. Being a waitress isn't easy work..."
Irvine raised a brow, wondering where this sudden case of symnpathy had come from. "In fact...it reminds me of this dream that I've been having lately."
"You're having nightmares about failing as a waitress in a well known restaurant?" Irvine asked in mock seriousness.
Zell kicked Irvine shin under the table. "just listen, okay?" After Irvine realized how much he deserved that, he winced in pain and gave Zell and hi plate of foof their full attention.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………
"Tis has to be the most vivid dream I've ever remembered...I'm confused as hell when I wake up...but some how I feel better about myself durning the day...like I have more confidence.
"Like you have a chance at graduating?" Irvine joked again.
Zell had explained his dreams to Irvine. They had decided to walk around town and digest their food. Eventually they began talking about Zell's dreams again.
Zell yanked Irvine's ponytail in front of everyone on the sidewalk. After Irvine decided that he deserved that, he rubbed his noggin and continued listening.
"At first I felt pathetic because I was nothing but a servant, but now...I think I may have a chance at becoming an actual knight.
Irvine cocked his head to the side. "Zell, you realize this is a dream we're talkking about? As in it has nothing to do with real life" Irvine was right, Zell realized. But even so, maybe that's the realest his being would ever be...Zell decided to keep those thoughts to himself.
"So what should we do now?" Zell changed the subject eagerly.
"Well we could go rob a bank so I can pay Seifer back all those drugs I bought..."
Zell blinked. "What?"
"I said we could roba bank so-"
"No, idiot I heard what you said. When did you start doing drugs and who is Seifer??"
"I don't do drugs, I was trying to do an experiement and I can't pay Seifer back yet-Seifer is that who is in our gym class, but never shows up..."
Zell sighed. "Good luck with that."
"I'll need it-wanna come over my house? I have destroy all humans 2."
"Awesome! I'm there!"
Zell was determined to spend as less time by himself as possible. He knew he'd eventually have to go home to his empty house, but why not kill the day while he still could.?
Mr Kinneas stopped working on his beyond repair 1973 Ford Angelia. "Hey, Zelly-boy. Good to see ya!" he greeted and pulled Zell into a bear hug.
"Nice to see you too, Mr. Kinneas," Zell choked out. Mr. Kinneas was a well muscled man. He looked just like Irvine except much taller and had short red hair as a opposed to Irvine's long ponytail.
"Alright if we go in and chill out for a while upstairs, pop."
"Go on help yourself. There's snacks in the fridge. Oh and Zell, I understand your parents are away for a while."
Zell flinched at the words. "Yeah my mother is away with Jeff," he corrected, putting emphesis on the fact that he only had ONE parent.
"Right. Gotcha," Mr. Kinneas caught on to the hint. "Anyway I understand you're all alone in that big 'ol house so feel free to lounge about over here til your mom gets back."
Zell's face lit up at the invitation. "That would be great! Thankyou!" A lot of relief lifted off of Zell's shoulders. Spending the week with Irvine and his dad would be awesome.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………… "Oh come on! Best 8 out of 10 please!"
"Irvine, you've been wearing me out all day," Zell complained.
It was around 2 in the morning and Zell and Irvine had been playing Destroy All humas 2 since Zell brought his overnight clothes over. Guilt kept picking at the back of Zell's mind because he knew he should have been reading L'amorte De' Arthur instead of playing videogames.
"Fine," Irvine yawned defeated. "I'll kick your butt tomorrow."
"Whatever..."
They turned the game off and went to sleep. Zell drifted back into the world of King Arthur with only Irvine's snores as a parting gift.
^^^^^^^^Arthurian Empire in Arthurian Age^^^^^^^
Zell put on his armor. Made of the finest steel and holstered his blade to his thight. His helmet, last to go on his body, made him look fierce. It covered every single iece of blond hair he had and protected the bridge of his nose.
He stepped out into the Gerat Hall and the fair Damsel Lynette, who wasn't too please to have a kitchen worker as her leading man, stood grudgingly infront of him to lead the way. Sir Cay stood grudgingly behind him and Sir Gawain stood next to Zell, just as a friend or a lover would. All four awaited King Arthur's blessing to venture out intpo their harsh long journy.
The king focused in on Rezellence. "Are you ready, young sir?" Zell was more ready than he'd ever be. This was his dream since childhood. He was born read. This was his destiny.
Your higness, I am ready," he announced confidently. A smile formed on the king's lips. "Then may god be with you." The gates were raised and the bridge was draw. The journy of Rezellence had begun.
Chapter 3: The Boy Who gave a Beating and the Boy Who Was Beaten. The rest of the weekend went by in a flash. Finals were approaching quickly and Zell and Irvine got more discouraged about Spanish and, particularly for Zell, history.
"Dude, I am so ********," Zell nervously chewed on his hot dog while trying to comprehend La Morte De Arthur.
"Well if you hadn't begged me to play Destroy All Humans 2 all night, we could have studied," Irvine accused.
"'Oh common! Best 8 out of 10!' Sound Familiar?" Zell mocked.
Irvine avoided Zell's eyes guiltily. "Calm down, Zell...your face is gonna break out again if you don't cool it." Zell had gotten two pimples since Sunday morning.
"If I don't stress I'll never get this inormation in my head. I think I'm starting to understand this, though," Zell said excitedly. "Wanna know what it's about?"
"uhh..not real-"
"Okay, well there's this guy named Gareth, right?" Zell interrupted before Irvine could refuse.
"He came from a far away land to work in the kitchen for King Arthur so he could pay off his debt. He finds his chance to pay of the rest by becoming a knight. Isn't that cool?"
"ZZZzZZZzzzZ...huh?" Irvine wiped drool from the corner of his mouth after he jerked awake from his half-asleep state. "Yeah Zell, that sounds interesting." Zell rolled his eyes.
The bell ending lunch sounded and Irvine was out in a flash to his next class. 'Saved by the bell,' thought Zell. He gathered his belongings and headed to study hall with his face still glued to the book. He was so into it he didn't notice the large body approaching him and knocking him down several feet.
The School drug dealer: Seifer Almasy. "The hell'd you do that for, you freak?" Zell shouted.
"You and me need to have a talk about your friend Irvine," he growled and dragged Zell to the boiler room. Seifer covered his mouth and threw his small body in the room. "Tell your friend that I want my money!" Seifer barked. At least he got straight to the point...
"You cut my lip, you b*****d!" Zell shot. He finally registered what was coming out of Seifer's mouth. "You did all that for me to give him a message?"
Seifer sneered. "You're gonna do more than deliver a message for me, you stupid chicken-wuss. That stupid red headed pony tail wearing p***y is gonna learn not to ******** with me. And if you scream, I'll maim that pretty little face of yours beyond recognition."
Zell gulped and tried to maneuver around the taller man. But a fist collided with his face and he was down for the count. His sub-concious fled from the fear being given by his bully into a far away land. A place where another Zell was fighting a battle.
^^^^^^^^Arthurian Empire in Arthurian Age^^^^^^^
"Stay away from my tent, you filthy kitchen worker!" Lynette snapped at Rezellence. She shut her tent in his face and dimmed her candle. All Zell had asked was if she needed help with anything. She was very dissapointed to have Rezellence as one of her guardians. Zell frowned at the material of her tent. A cold metal hand caressed his shouloder. Zell knew who it was automatically.
"Give her time Rezellence. This is a shock for her," Sir Gawaine said.
"Sir Gawaine, can you please call me Zell?" Rezellence asked.
"Zell? Okay..." Gawaine tried the new nickname. Zell much perferred it if Gawaine called him that. It made them feel more closer.
"How am I supposed to protect her if she despises me?"
"You'll just have to prove to her that you're more than just a kitchen worker. And you are more! I know it, the king knows it, your father knew it, you know it, and pretty soon the whole kingdom will know it! Maybe even the world if you're good enough."
Zell's heart had been touched. He blushed at his compliment. He loved being praised by the older man. "Thank you sir."
"Are you two love birds done?" Sir Cay interrupted. Zell frowned and glared at Cay for spoiling the moment. Gawaine gave a curt nod and walked away towards the campfire.
"Thanks for ruining the moment..." Zell hissed.
"How dare you speak to me in that way! You are an apprentice knight first and a slut second do you understand me? And on't ever talk to me in that way again." Sir Cay grabbed Zell by the elbow and spun him around. "Just because you're wearing armor doesn't mean there isn't a filthy little wrench underneath it." Zell was close to tears now, but he wouldn't let that man see him cry. He kicked Cay in the shin and spit in his face.
"WHORE!" Cay shouted. He raised his hand to strike Zell across the face. Zell was going to block the incoming blow, but it never came. When Zell looked up he saw the wrist of Cay in the fierce grip of none other than the Green Knight of Green Launds. Cay was tossed over the Green Knight's shoulder into the treetops until his screams couldn't be heard anymore.
Even though Sir Cay had treated Zell harshly in th epast, he still hoped that he would be okay. Rezellence stopped worrying and his basic combat instinct kicked in before Sir Gawaine had time to intervine. Zell and the Green Knight's sword clanged against each other and Lynette came out of her tent to see what all the commotion was about. "Go back inside!" Zell shouted whil trying to duck from The Green Knight's swipe.
Green Knight pulled out his sword and aided Zell. Any ameteur wouldn't have been able to defeat the Green Villain at such low experience. But the only help Zell needed was Gawaine's words from before.
Rezellence decided right then and there, that he would have to win this battle and many more to come to win Lynette's respect. He ducked from the green Knight's blade and pierced him in th estomache, straight through his lizard-like armor and into his vitals.
After that, his body lay limp on Zell's tool. With an unfogiving shove of his foot, Zell slid the enemy off of his blade. Zell had just taken a life. Sir Gawain looked at his young friend from the side, taking in every aspect of his new found warrior's side. As the sun finally set, the final hue of golden sunlight faded away, taking Zell's strong beauty with it.
A lump caught in Gawaine's throat. "I..will d-dispoase of the body whne I find Sir Cay," he said and left through the trees. Lynette came out of the tent.
"Do you still believe I am nothing more than a kitchen worker, M'Lady?"
She curled her lip. "Beginners luck. You will not survive the next brother for certain, she declared.
"I'll have you eating those words before the next sundown, fair maiden." Zell walked away to his own tent. Neither of the two boys knew it, but the feeling Gawaine and Zell had for each other were starting to grow into something more than just...friendship.
^^^^^^^^Modern Day American Life ^^^^^^^^
When Zell opened his eyes, he felt like he had been hit by a train. His head pounded like it was a sore thumb. Was he in a hospital? He thought he defeated the Green Knight why would he be in a hospital. And was Sir Gawaine okay? What about Sir Cay? He had been injured to-
"Hey he's a wake!" A familiar voice said. Mr. Kinneas immediately came to Zell's side. Th eblond opened his eyes fully, or as full as he could since he had a purple swollen ring around one of them.
"Zelly! Are you alright?" Irvine asked, concern written all over his face.
"Irvine! You should have been there! I defeated the first knight!" Zell said in excitement. Irvine frowned at Zell.
Was he okay? Maybe the should have called a doctor after all. "Zell do you remember anything at all?"
"First of all: My name isn't Zell. It's Rezellence Dincht of North Beumains! Second: Did you hear me? I stabbed a man in the stomache. H etried to kill me and Gawaine! And Lynette still hates me, but...I'll get her to come around sooner or later..."
Irvine and Mr. Kinneas exchanged glasses. Zell lay on their couch babbling about nothing. It was time Irvine came clean. "Zell, Seifer beat the crap out of you. Almost to death. I looked ofr you after school and couldn't find you and you were in the boiler room. Seifer is in custody."
"What?" Pieces of the mentioned scene were coming back to him. "Oh yeah! I remember everything now! This is all your fault, Irvine."
"I figured that much, Zell and I'm sorry. But right now I think you need psychological attention," Irvine hung his head in shame.
"You've been traumatized, Zell. We need to get you help before it gets worse," Mr. Kinneas declared.
Zell had had enough. His own best friend and godfather thought he was crazy! He tried to stand, he was going to go home and get away from these people. "You're the crazy ones!" Zell shouted. "He tried to push past Mr. Kinneas but the man restrained him.
"Zell' we're trying to help you," Mr. Kinneas struggled. As mentioned before, Mr. Kinneas was a strong man, Zell is only 5'6" and yet Mr. Kinneas was struggling to hold him down. "Ugh-help me, Irv," Mr. Kinneas pleaded.
Irvine tried to hold Zell down too, but him and his father's strength wasn't nearly enough to hold down the warrior. "GETOFFA ME!" Zell launched the two men off of him and they went flying into the walls of their own house. He ran out of their home without looking back at their shocked expressions.
He ran and ran until he was about 10 miles out of the suburbs. He wasn't even tired at that point. Where he had gotten this endurance or this power, he didn't care to wonder. It fekt natural. Like he was meant ti have it.
He had to do something. He had to go somewhere...he needed...Gawaine. "Sir Gawaine I wish you were here with me now!" He cried. He had no idea where he was. Somewhere in the urban area of his city. He didn't want to go back to his home. He didn't have a home anymore. People don't think you're crazy at home...
Home was with Gawaine...at the castle in the shade under a tree. Home was in his dreams. If he died right now, would he be able to dream for ever? To not be bothered with High School, traitors, and bullies would be heaven. Could it really be that easy?
Zell rested his head against a wall of an alley. Around the corner a woman was being chased by three men. "Give us a kiss, pretty lady," Zell heard one of them say. They were trying to do harm to her. Not while Rezellence was around they couldn't.
"Somebody help me!" The woman scremed. One of the men ripped her shirt leaving her nearly exposed. Zell stayed to the shadows. Conveniently placed by his foot were shards of a broken beer glass. Anyone who tried to harm a lady wasn't a man at all. One of the men had tried too pull out a knife, but found his hand stapled to the wall by a flying piece of glass.
He cried out in pain alarming his friends. More glass came flying out of the shadows and pretty soon every last one of the men fell to the floor with shards sticking out of their face. Two on the ground; dead. One stapled to the wall: Dead. The woman: A ripped shirt, but other than that: Unscathed.
Zell finally steped out into the moonlight. His blond hair making a perfect crest. "Are you okay, M'lady?" He asked.
The woman thought it was strange that he addressed her as, 'M'Lady' but she was too scared for her life to care. A kid had had just come out of the shadows and killed three men like he had done it all his life. If she played it cool, he'd walk away and then she'd have a chance to call the cops. "Yeah, I'm fine thanks to you. I won't tell anybody about this okay. You have my gratitude."
"It was no inconvenience. I'm happy to to serve my kingdom," Zell said.
She played along with the insane man. "What is my savior's name?" "Rezellence Dincht," he gave a curt nod and walked away. He was obvoiously a psychopathic killer who thought he was a superhero, she thought. Once he was out of sight she pulled out her cellphone and dialed 911.
"911 What's your emrgency," the operator asked.
"Oh my god! A boy just killed three men in an alley right infront of me."
"Where are you, mam?" She told him her location.
"Which way did the killer go, mam?" She told them Zell's direction.
"We'll be there in ten minutes. Don't touch the bodies. May we have your name?"
"Yes, my name is Lynette."
...................................................................................................................................................................................
Rezellence walked down the street in search of crime. There weas nothing so far. And as far as he was concerned it was going to stay like that while he was around. A cop car pulled up to Zell with its siren off.Two policemen were in the car. "Are you Zell Dincht?" The one in the passenger's seat asked.
"I am Rezellence of Dincht. How may I be of service to you?" Zell asked in an out of character fashion. The poliece knew right away this was the kid.
They both got out of the car. "Im gonna need you to put your hands where we can see them. We have to take you in for questioning."
"But I've done nothing wrong. This is injustice!" Zell shouted and dashed out into a spint. It took no time for the cops to call for assistance and chase after him as well.
The chase only took 10 minutes to have four other units trying to surround him and capture him. 30 minutes into it they got fed up and began shooting at him. It was all over the news. The boy who outran 5 patrol units for over an hour and succesfully dodged every last one of their bullets.
Was he superhuman? No one knew. But an auburn haired boy back in the suburbs was the only one who knew the truth. Zell had been right about everything. People don't get into fist fights and go crazy. Especially not Zell. Irvine had much more faith in Zell than that, and he was going top prove it to him one way or another.
Zell climbed a ladder to the tallest building he could find in the downtown district. No one could find him up there. He was wrong. A crowd of people gathered at the bottom of the building watching the psychgopath climb to his sanctuary. Helicopters flew above the blond murderer and broadcasted every detail to the folks at home who didn't have a front row ticket. It was then and there that Zell realized he had no escape...
There was no way out and he may never see Sir Gawaine again. He might as well jump from the very ledge that he stand on right now. Before he took his jump a tear escaped his beautiful blue eye, and he saw the world for exactly what it was. A battleground. A vast plain of grass where Zell took his rightfull place as warrior of the land.
He leaped from the stone ledge and closed his eyes. His audience held their breath and worshiped him as he sacrificed himself. Irvine shouted in terror as the body of his friend descended faster and faster towards the cold hard ground. He was seconds to late....
...and then it was over. The Earth swallowed the knight up. As he lay limp, with every bone in his body broken to many pieces, he died with a smile on his face. He knew he was being taken back to where he belonged. And that is the story of how Zell Dincht spent his last days on earth before even turning eighteen.

Rezellence woke up crying in his and Gawaine's tent. Gawaine was afraid this would happen. Waking up in fits of rage having just killed a monster like the Green Knight. Immediately Sir Gawaine sensed it and comforted Zell in his arms. "What troubles you, my young friend? Are you still shocked from what happened earlier?" Gawiane asked with concern.
"I think the dreams are over....I think I finally realize what they mean."
Gawiane cocked his head in confusion. "How long have you been having these dreams?" he asked.
"Right before Lynette showed up. I was having dreams about being a different version of myself, in another land, far away and far different from this one. I went to school, went on dates, drove a car sometimes, and I had one of the best friends in the world. His name was Irvine."
"What is it about these dreams that brought tears to your eyes?"
"I just died..."
Gawiane was silent for a while. "A dream is nothing but a dream, Rezellence."
"But the reason why I dides to terrible. I died because it felt like I was so alone, also because I wanted to meet my one true love in another land."
An uncomfortable silence filled their tent. "That sounds like a very powerful dream you had. Who was your true love, then?" Sir Gawaine asked nervously.
"T'was none other than you," Zell finally confessed.
The two stared into each other's eyes for a brief moment before sealing their tension with a chaste kiss. Gawaine pulled away immediately. "You are a child!" he said unconvincingly.
"Not for long, my love," Zell said hopefully. 'That's what this dream has been about. NOne other than you! If I never tell you how I feel, I'll never have a free night of sleep. I love you Sir Gawaine! More than anything in this world. I'd gladly wash the kitch athousand times over just to see your smiling face in the castle from time to time. please tell me you feel the same." Zell held his breath.
Gawiane was silent again, looking only at the ground. "When this mission is over...perhaps...I will thin about this..." Zell's eyes lit up. Some hope was better than none, right? "We must rest. We've got a long day ahead.
Yes they did. Many long days ahead indeed. Filled with laughter, love and accomplishment. Sir Gawaine might not see it now, but someday...someday...his heart will be won.
^^^^^^^^Modern Day American Life (Without Zell)^^^^^^^
Irvine sat in Zell's old empty room. The funeral had ended a while ago in his and Iria's house. It was depressing. Especially on Irvine and Zell's parents part. Iria never got to see her son before she left. 'She hadn't bothered to' Irvine thought bitterly.
Everything of Zell's hadbeen removed and placed in storage. This angered Irvine. It was like they were trying to erase him as if he'd never existed. Would that help their guilt over leaving their son to get married? Irvine decided to stop blaming other people. It was actually his fault.
If Irvine had believed Zell in the first place, he wouldn't have ran off into a bad neighborhood and commited suicide. Zell had tried to tell him. Irvine began crying for about the fiftieth time right there on Zell's floor. Everyone had thought that he commited suicide because his parents left hims and he was assaulted and on the edge of not graduating.
They were all wrong. Zell wasn't himself. He was someone else when he died. He missed hims so much. How he used to thwap Irvine on the head for saying something stupid or not paying attention to Zell. Flashbacks and memories to painful to think of haunted Urvine's head again and he began weeping once more. It was that exact spot where he and Zell studied for their Spanish final before breaking the news about his parents.
Underneath his sobs he thought he heard someone whisper his name. He looke dup. No one was there. It was probably time to start leaving anyway. He had only come up here to pay his last respects to Zell's memory. When he tried to leave, though he headr that exact same whisper. This time he knew he wasn't imagining things.
Irvine. It was Zell! He was calling his name! Irvine didn't care how it was possible. But it was happening. "Where are you?" Irvine called. Irvine. It was coming from the closet in Zell's room. He went to the closet and opened the door and was surprised at what he found.
There it was on the floor. Heavy and intimidating. 'L'Morte De Arthur' by Sir Thomas Malroy' Had they forgotten to pack this into storage? Irvine picked it up and flipped through the pages. There were several pictures in the book. Irvine was shocked to find a picture in it that had a character who looked exactly like Zell. That same blond crest and cheeky smile and everything!
He was standing next to another Kinght and two other characters stood close behind them. A woman with long red hair who ooked familiar also. And a man in armor stood next to her. Four characters. He didn;t recognize any of the men besides Zell. But that woman was killing him to remember where he had seen her from.... Then it hit him. She was an eye-witness on the news describing how Zell murdered those men. Knowing Zell he was probably trying to protect her. Irvine read the inscription at the bottom. 'How Rezellence conquored the trust of Lynette and continued onward with Sir Cay and Gawaine Towards the Tower of Bloody Lunds.
Irvine smiled to himself. So Zell finally got what he wanted. He found his place in the world.
