Pixies - Alec Eiffel
What can I say about the Pixies. Probably the most influential-bands-that-nobody-knows of all time. Absolutely the most influential band to me personally. Everyone who becomes someone who cares about music has a band that popped their cherry and made them see how amazing music can be. For me this band was the Pixies. They're a 4 piece band out of Boston with (Frank) Black Francis on rhythm guitar and lead/backup vocals, Kim Deal on bass and backup/lead vocals, Joey Santiago on lead guitar (with sick solos), and David Lovering on drums. The Pixies are the epitome of that non-traditional catchyness that I love. They're associated with the term "loud QUIET loud" as their songs focus on the power within going from a soft melody to a loud rock-out. This song is one of my favorites and the videos pretty awesome too, tho its a bit dated. The Pixies started out in the late 80's I think, and just recently had a kind of revival with some new songs and EP's however the bassist Kim Deal was replaced with Kim Shattuck and the band doesn't feel quite right to me, tho still a more than solid band in general. I could go on and on about the Pixies and how amazing and talented they are as a band and as individuals, or about how and who they've influenced in the world of music, but I wouldn't be able to do them justice. If you're intrigued at all by this song or these words, I'd encourage anyone and their mother to check out the Pixies and add them to your list of favorite bands. As a final note I was able to see the Pixies (all original members) perform live during their Doolittle tour a few years ago. I don't like going to live shows and I prefer studio music to live music, but this was one of the highlights of my life for sure.
