Writing stories is difficult for many reasons. When I first started writing seriously I knew that getting a story out on paper would be difficult. Constructing ideas with words is not my strong suit. But as I progressed I realized that the plot and storyline were not my biggest problem. I had such a hard time creating characters that had one personality. I have a difficult time separating myself from the characters! It came to the point when I could not invent a character that I had not already experienced, or seen act, while asleep. Keeping a dream journal is the best decision I ever made, not just for art inspiration, but for interesting and new novel ideas as well!
