Koudiqoi
The Kodiqoi. Strong, beautiful, powerful, ancient and all-knowing. Their magic was surpassed only by their wisdom. They who created and nurtured the world and stars were called this, the word that meant not only “ancient” but “loving”. The Kodiqoi created the world, Terra, and from it, all the world’s children and animals.
The world was founded on the belief that power was in the soul, created by love and belief. The world’s first children, fashioned in the image of the Kodiqoi, took this to heart. The world’s creators touched the children, talked with them, taught them of the world and stars and magic. They gave the children the ability to use the magic of the earth and its elements. They gave the children the knowledge of the earth and its plants and animals, how to use them properly and to cultivate them.
Then the Malaadaku came and changed everything. They saw the world Terra and its children and decided they wanted it for their own. They came in much greater numbers and fought the Kodiqoi, killing all but three. The children watched with horror, gathering around their parents’ bodies. As their bodies slowly formed crystals over them as they passed, they gave the children the last of their magic in order to help fight the Malaadaku. Their last magic took the form of a golden sword, shield and staff. Three of the children took these weapons up and faced their enemy with the last three of their caretakers.
In the end, only the children survived. They lay down their bloody weapons and gathered up the bodies of their fallen family. The bodies of the fallen children they buried, but the crystals they built a great stone temple around. They called the crystals Espers and heard the spirits speak to them – the Kodiqoi were not dead! Their bodies had merely been wounded and needed time to repair. They assured the children that they would one day return. The children locked their magic weapons away, deep in the temple, and lived with their Espers. In time, they erected great cities of magic.
But as the years passed, they lost their magic, and the Espers were eventually forgotten…
