Chapter II Jacen stumbled out of the forest and glanced toward Bryann. His skin itched and burned from the many scratches he had just obtained from running carelessly through the forest. He forced the scratches from his mind and focused on what he was supposed to do, what he needed to do. He needed to make sure that Bryann was alright and that there was no harm done to him.
The first thing he noticed was that Bryann was no longer looking toward the direction of the forest. In fact, his attention wasn’t even on his bow anymore or anywhere having to do with Jacen. He didn’t look interested in what Jacen might have found or what could have happened to him, at all. He was talking intently to an old man in a simple, white, box-like carriage. The two horses pulling it looked old and ragged, like they hadn’t been given a break in a long time. Their ribs were showing through their rough hides. The old man was as old as anyone that Jacen had ever seen. He had white hair and was going completely blind. Bryann seemed to be giving the man directions and that irritated Jacen immensely. He wasn’t as worried about what he had heard in the forest as he had been a couple of minutes ago. It looked like he was making a new friend with the stranger. His irritation lasted no longer than just a few seconds, though. As he took a step toward the talking pair, he felt what he had felt in the forest, once more. It was there. Evil and somewhat out of place. It wasn’t something that was supposed to exist.
