On my Goth Thread OP I state Goth IS NOT conservative and link to the following video. [x] That being said, it doesn't mean that conservatives and other types of extremists can't be goth, unfortunately. Why though? Because goth is an interest based or music based subculture, meaning anyone can simply like goth things and aesthetics.
However, being conservative or whatever else type of extremist is absolutely NOT what our subculture is about nor what it represents as what it does is the very opposite. Those partaking in our subculture with terrible mindsets and ill will towards others are just walking contradictions and are clearly oblivious to what it actually means to be goth other than liking certain aspects of it.
There is more to goth than the aesthetics and that being the mindset. [x] Obviously, it consists of freedom of expression, standing out from the norm and seeing beauty in the darker aspects of life. That doesn't mean though, admiration of anything obscene and harmful, we're talking beauty in natural dark things and not crimes against one another.
There will seemingly always be those that try to drag our name down to their unruly level while trying to make it some how "justify" their terrible actions and mindsets. These negative efforts are however, futile as what goth is and what it really represents can never and never will be changed.
That doesn't stop them from trying though. Especially in these dark times there are those hypocritical individuals trying to make themselves more and more relevant and those of us who instantly see through the bs and know better are not buying it. I even recently heard of a christian extremist 'goth' with a YouTube channel that's doing nothing but spreading hateful and disinformative rhetoric.
People like this are incredibly disappointing and even more so insulting to the rest of us. It's good to see when those who know better call these things out for what they are and are just not having it but it's still harmful for those with ill intentions to be making content and just being so toxic in general.
When it comes to 'christian goths' like the aforementioned extremist content creator, they cannot say that "goth is christian" because of the crosses, because that is absolutely not true. Goth has no religion and fundamentally was originally against the mainstream, ie religion and controlled societal norms.
Now I'm not gonna tell people they can't have a religion and be goth, one of the first things I stated was that anyone can be goth as having whatever belief or mindset doesn't necessarily determine what sort of interests you have. Well so long as you don't let it at least.
For a moment I wondered, why though? Why the ******** would anyone do and act like this when they're interested in a subculture that's about the exact opposite of what they stand for. It's no mystery though. Some people are just ******** stupid, entitled and give no shits about origins and true meanings of things. They just see what they want, see what they like and try to claim it as their own. Picking and choosing if you will. Sound familiar? Yeah, exactly.
I wouldn't look down on someone for calling someone like that a 'poser' because quite frankly, it really does fit. On the contrary, that can also be a bit of an oxymoron to a degree because of what I just stated. Liking something doesn't necessarily change one's mindset and vice versa. It can be debatable I suppose. It's one of those things where I'm on the fence. I still see such individuals as goth sure, but they don't have the soul of goth, they're hollow and again, will never represent our subculture and it's true roots.
