My life!
Of Mice and Men
I just finished reading "Of Mice and Men" and here is what I thought of it:

I have to say that my enjoyment of this book was tainted from the beginning. When I was twelve, I read a summery of this book and knew what would happen at the end before I began.

I was frankly very shocked by how much profanity was in this book, it was on almost every page! The story was not (in my very stupid opinion) very great. The whole thing could have been avoided if anyone in Lennie's life had been trained to hand someone who had mental handicaps. If anyone had taught him how to handle his strength, he would not have gotten into these accidents.

Ignoring the last paragraph, I think that the whole book was well written, and it really showed the mindset of a hobo in the twenties (I believe that was the time period). Oddly enough, this book also had a very poetic sense to it. (they repeated a certain phrase throughout it)

I would give this book a 2/5 I have to give almost every book a 1 just for me finishing it and I gave it another 1 for being a classic, but other than that, I didn't really enjoy this book. The ending was totally avoidable and un called for. The poor language choice of the characters could be viewed as a realistic take on Amarican life back then, but I think that it was rather excessive.

The bottom line: read it if you have to for school, but if you just see it at the library and think "That would be a great classic to read", don't fall for it! Pick up some Jane Austen instead! biggrin
