Bandijou Flashback
The wind caressed us in a loving embrace. We lay in the grass, face to face with sparkling gems of dew. I stared at Muse as she blinked at a blade of grass with her wide eyes. She didn’t exactly know what was going on. I could tell it in her expression, even though she probably would deny it, now. I took a deep breath in, and inhaled my surroundings. My mother was a little ways ahead. And so were they. My body itched to get up and run, but I followed orders and stayed low. My sister began to grow restless, so I took hold of her ear. I steered her head away from the direction our mother was in, and gently pulled partially because I was trying to move her, partially because I knew any form of contact was calming. Her fur was a bit ruffled, most likely from her tromping around in the field earlier terrorizing butterflies this morning. She cocked her head to the side, trying to catch my gaze, but I continued onwards. We slunk our way through the chilled air, our destination ahead. I could see the cave entrance, leading to darkness as my mother’s scent grew further and further away. Muselique began to whimper, so I gave her one final nudge so she would make her way into the cave. After watching her a little ways and scanning the cave for a moment, I turned. Pines tried to no avail to hush the now screaming winds. In the distance, I heard a lone, sad howl. It didn’t last long, as it was soon cut off abruptly. Salty tears brimmed my eyes, a single drop making its way down my cheek. I knew the howl, and I knew exactly whom it came from. My mother, before we had left, comforted us. She gave an encouraging smile, telling us to go undercover, stay safe, and she would join us very soon. But as my lip began to quiver, the truth made itself very clear. I turned back, making my way into the darkness, assuming my duties to take care of the only family I had left now. Mother wasn’t coming back to protect us. Muselique is all I had left, and I made an oath that I won’t be losing her, I will protect her now. That, along with avenging my mother.
I am Bandijou LeFryk, and no low-lifes, no matter human nor my own kind, will get away with this. I will make sure of it.
