Vessel I: Sterility & Madness
It was a product of science-fiction: too clean, too metallic, too sterile. All the walls, plus the floor and ceiling, save the one she faced were padded cloth. The wall in front of her was a thick screen of pristine glass. A cell. And beyond it...a lab facility.
The contents of the cell was a young, pale-skinned girl with ebony, shoulder-length hair and blood-colored eyes. She was dressed in faded blue jeans that were ripped and badly sewn in some places and a gray sweatshirt. Her feet were covered by white ADIDAS sneakers with black stripes on the sides.
I must leave this place. The girl did not know how long she had been repeating this vein of thought, but it was most likely a broken record by now. Her reverie was suddenly broken by a deep, masculine voice in her mind.
(If you must leave, then stop thinking it and DO IT!) Inwardly, she flinched at the voice's angry tone as if she was slapped. Sensing this, the voice softened, almost brotherly.
(I'm sorry. This place is getting to me too, Diaage. I'm starting to think we'll waste away and die if we don't leave.) ...It's alright. But you are probably right, Seph. Only how do we get out? I have a feeling breaking this glass wall will be too obvious and we'll be surrounded. (I'll keep an eye out for any opportunities and we'll plan something. I think working together might be our best chance of getting out alive.)
He suddenly lapsed into silence and she could feel his eyes narrow in annoyance and possibly anger. She glanced to the direction of the source of his annoyance and saw a tall man with ash-colored hair and eyes in a white lab coat approaching her cell.
Prof. Hojo Eijiro. Her warden and the Head of the Shinra Unit.
Diaage did not quite understand Sephiroth's adversity towards the professor, or his sudden urges to run him through with anything that could be used as a weapon, which in turn made her want to do that as well. Envisioning reins attached to an unruly horse, she pulled back, restraining him as she watched the man punch a code on the numbered pad next to her cell, admonishing Sephiroth.
Why are you so hostile and distrusting towards him? He hasn't done anything wrong or given us cause for suspicion. (Yet...) Was the only response she received, followed by a somewhat sullen silence. Diaage heard a faint "access code accepted" coming from outside, followed by the glass screen fading away.
Smiling at his charge, Eijiro Hojo approached the line where the glass screen once was.
"Get up, Diaage. It's time for the field tests."
He led her to a large indoor arena, in which he left her standing by herself before running towards a platform in which he and other scientists would do the tests and record the results. While they prepared for the tests, Sephiroth momentarily took over and examined the surroundings, looking for anything which might be of advantage for them.
Then, he spotted it and allowed his host to assume control.
(Don't turn your head, or if you must, do it slowly and slightly. Far right of the wall you're facing.)
Diaage obeyed and let her eyes travel across the wall until reaching the far right.
A window.
A new frontier lies on the other side of that window, awaiting us. As they say...now or never, eh Seph?
(...I concur.) Let's play along for a bit, though. Diaage thought as they gave the OK to start. Taking a deep breath, she spoke.
"One-Winged Angel: 10% power...Password: Jenova. 10% power...acknowledged!" Her eyes emitted a red glow, and she began shadow-sparring in the field, launching and dodging attacks against invisible opponents.
While doing this, she inched closer and closer to the window's vicinity, making it look as though she was being cornered. However, she managed to jump over her invisible enemies. She then charged forward and jumped.
In the platform, Eijiro and his colleagues were beaming at Diaage's progress. "Alright, Diaage. You may st--" Eijiro never finished, his statement cut off by the breaking of glass.
An escape.
